I'm surprised reporters don't get beat up more often. I would love for someone to start digging up dirt on a lot of these reporters like they do on other people and begin putting a microphone in their faces and writing columns with "anonymous" sources. LOL!
I don't wanna get this too NS, okay?
I'm all for freedom of the press, freedom requires it. But that's become a shield, too. If we shined the spotlight on the rotten fruit of a number of journalists, we'd find some bruises and less than perfect spots. That doesn't absolve Meyer of anything but again - MY problem with this from day one has been, "Why do I know more about what Urban Meyer did or didn't do than the guy who actually hit the spouse?"
I mean, if press freedom is what the deal is, why be so sneaky about it? Why not just come out and write the story like this:
"Zach Smith, assistant football coach at Ohio State University, beat his wife years ago. More than once. Pictures show he X/Y/Z."
Why hide all that, ask Meyer for a comment (knowing - just like McMurphy would if asked something embarrassing - he'd lie), and
then pontificate self-righteously with, "How can this guy sleep at night knowing his assistant coach beat his own wife?'
What I think would be cool is this...McMurphy set the trap for him and Meyer say, "Yeah, I knew about it."
McChicken: "How can you knowingly employ an assistant coach that beats his wife?"
Meyer: "Because I'm not the (expletive of your choice) criminal justice system, Brent. And neither are you. Next question?"
