I've rarely haerd someone say they were innocent while sounding that guilty. That Zac Smith interview made me cringe.

Some thoughts:
1. I don't think they'll bring back Meyer quickly. They might sack him quickly if something comes out, but to keep him they want to be sure that after they announce his return there isn't going to be a new allegation.
2. Does OSU have documentation that Meyer reported it in 2015?
3. Why did Meyer or the AD not get rid of Smith after 2015 if they knew? Like other posters here. I have to think Saban would have reported this at the same time the assistant was invited to explore new career opportunities elsewhere.
4. Meyer's lying on the subject during Media Days gives rise to a favorite question of us lawyers: "Were you lying then or are you lying now?"
5. Don't assume that OSU approved of Meyer's tweet last night.
6. Don't assume that Smith's lawyer approved of his horrible interview last night. Clients are known to ignore lawyers' advice. (I know from experience in my career.)
7. Whether or not Title IX is implicated, what Ohio laws, OSU policies, or contractual provisions applied? I expect that more than a few coaches are making sure this issue is being checked out for their own protection.
I have already heard discussion of names for a new HC if Meyer goes. Actually, it was more who wouldn't be considered. The view was that OSU has signaled that the two former HCs on the staff are out because they didn't make one of them the acting HC. (Rightly or wrongly, Schiano is tied to PSU and Paterno. Wilson was fired at Indiana after allegations of mistreating players.) I heard a caller suggest Tom Herman, with the response that because he was on the OSU staff at the time, the question will come up as to what HE knew and did HE have a duty to report something?)
After all this, don't forget the victim, or do things to mitigate what he did. On occasion, I had to help prosecute abuse cases, including one that led to her murder. As much as we love it, football is a game. What this lady endured at the hands (literally) of someone who had promised to love her is far more important.
Ok. I'm a little dense. The domestic violence issues were being investigated by the authorities in each case. This before Meyer's was made aware. Right? So, basically 2 things that Meyers is being accused of. 1) Not handling the firing situation properly (hanging on to Zach too long) and 2) lying to the press. The lying to the press doesn't seem to be a fireable offense to me. Only the first situation merits anything. How much did he know and should he have acted sooner? Meyers didn't impede the authorities investigation in any way. right? Does that sum it up? Am I missing something?

No, you're not missing anything - unless you count missing a veritable hatred for Meyer.
People who already hated Meyer want to see this issue cause him to relive a sad country song. People who love Meyer want to see him absolved of any and all guilt for just about anything, really. Others are simply saying to settle down and wait for more information before jumping to conclusions.
It's probably a misplaced sense of loyalty. It's my understanding that Smith is Bruce Earle's grandson and Meyer considers Earle his mentor. The most troubling thing to me is why in the world did he keep Zac Smith around?
Just a quick reminder to keep this conversation completely civil or you will lose posting privileges.
A few of you are walking right up to the line.
I would like to know WHO has the MOST POSTS in Thread 1.0 and Thread 2.0. And what is the grand total number of posts that that poster has. Just wondering.
Hopefully, this is completely CIVIL.
Again, sit back, relax, and wait for tOSU officials to make a decision.
I’ve worked in the public and private sectors and I’ve never known of any HR policy or local, state or federal rule involving reporting of sensitive personnel, disciplinary or other such matters that didn’t require some form of written documentation memorializing the reporting.
It’s hard to believe that simply saying “well, I told Joe but who knows what he did with the info?†would suffice to show compliance.
There well may such documentation and if it exists my guess is we will hear of it soon.
If this happening with Meyer caused this much discourse I would have hated to see the reaction if this had been on Malzahn’s staff.

Malzahn hasn’t shown himself to be a liar and a scumbag, he’s just an overpaid idiot. There’s a big difference.
I have felt, and continue to feel Meyer will keep his job. The more days that pass by without an announcement the better it is for him I think.
