Welcome, PepsiTrojan. I hope you find our forum a nice place to visit. We're pretty steel-fisted regarding our rules of posting, so be sure to keep those in mind.
As for the game, I think it will be close, and wouldn't be surprised to find it decided in the 4th quarter. We have loads of talent, but we're breaking in a new QB and all-new backfield, something we've not had to do since Saban arrived, so it will likely take time for those elements to gel. USC also has boatloads of talent, so i expect a real battle and absolutely am not assuming a win.
Where teams have been most effective against Bama, outside of miraculously lucky plays here and there, have been when they had a fantastic QB that could put the ball in tight spaces and attacked there middle of the field with WRs - our LBs are good, but they aren't going to be able to cover many WRs 10 yards off the line. The middle of the secondary is probably the biggest weakness in Saban's secondary, and we've seen more teams exploit that in the last few years as our secondary hasn't been as good as we'd like. I do think this year's secondary could be very good- we've got amazing athletes with experience back there now.
That said, the defense should be extraordinary this year. On paper, it could be one of our best ever, but they play the games on the field for a reason.
Offensively, once we get our legs under us, we should be a force. Probably the best receiver corps we've ever had (arguably the best in the nation) an d three talented QBs battling to start behind what should be an improved OL. The two assumed primary RBs both showed flashes last year, but neither of them ever got enough snaps to really dial it in.
On paper, we probably have the most talented team i the country and we definitely have good coaches on the sidelines, but it takes time to assemble those into a 'team', and playing a team as talented as USC is (especially with the lack of respect I suspect they'll get from the media leading up to the game) with this particular Bama team makes me nervous.
Hope we absolutely STOMP USC, but doubt it.
