ADMIN NOTE: Warning to VT Fans...

I will have to disagree with you on the younger people thing, though we as younger fans have our share. It has been my experience that age has nothing to do with how you act at a game or on the internet. I have known plenty of older people who get on the internet and are just as annoying and disrespectful as others. That has just been my experience. I think the reason it is a sign of the times is that there are just so many more ways to hear about it now than previous generations.

As far as this thread goes, it is disappointing to read about people's negative interactions with the VT people. My dad and I went to the first Music City bowl when VT beat us badly and the VT fans we interacted with before and after the game were good folks and were very gracious about the win. This was before the start of their recent success, but it still makes me a bit sad to see this. You would think that people who take the time to post on another teams board would want to be friendly, since they took the time to find another teams board, but who knows.

I think the message is not that "age" in and of itself is the reason. But that the "age" points to the era in which they were "parented and raised". It is no secret and dang near a fact that young people today are much more inclined to "get in your face" and show a lack of "manners" or "respect".

I, along with other VT fans, feel that we are the favorite and better program at this point in time.

That's fine. Although I don't agree, I think it's perfectly normal for you to feel that way. What's not acceptable is to beat me over the head with it with dozens of posts all stating that opinion over and over, even when you're warned to shut up and move on. I just want acceptance that it's our board and it'll be run the way we see fit, and compliance with our rules and directions of the staff. If the only way I can obtain compliance is removal, then I'll do that too. BTW, this is not an invitation to debate the way the board is run - quite the contrary, in fact...

I get your point and do agree that there is a lot of young people behaving poorly, but the point I was trying to make, is that the reason it is the reason that it is thought that young people are more inclined to do so is maybe not that they are actually inclined to act this way than any other previous generation, we are just more likely to be exposed to it in some shape, form, or fashion. In a previous day and age there may not have been as much of a way to hear of it, or as large of a sample size to draw from. J

ust my thoughts, good discussion, though I will try not to hijack a football thread to discuss further.

Re: My perspective is that

being a VT fan we do have a great fanbase and respect our opponents. We also realize it's 2009 and VT is the defending ACC champions. A lot of Alabama fans have been looking past us and declaring victory before the game has been played. I, along with other VT fans, feel that we are the favorite and better program at this point in time. No disrespect to this board, other users, or Alabam's program, just in the past 5 years VT's success has been > Alabamas IMO. Good luck in September and I look forward to it.

That absolutely has nothing to do with coming on a rival's board and acting a fool. Whether you've had long term success or just a five year or so window of recent success doesn't entitle you or your fans to any type of behavior on a BAMA board. It's much like walking into someone else's house and demanding them to go by your rules, rather than theirs. If you want to stay in their house then go by their rules. If you don't want to go by their rules- leave. But don't expect them to change their rules so you can arrogantly dance around their living room demanding praises and worship. If you want to do that do it on a Hokie board. Not a Bama board. Correction-THIS board. :)

You probably won't get much argument from us over that statement but we are just starting our third season with Nick Saban prior to that we suffered through a decade of NCAA probation and several coaching mistakes. We feel the VT people are looking past the fact Alabama went undefeated in the regular season and beat preseason #9 Clemson, Georgia was #3 when we beat them, Ol Miss was 3-3 when we won a close one where we wondered if we would face a team that beat Florida or one that folded to Vandy, Ol Miss finished with 6 straight wins after playing Bama and a #14 ranking. Tennessee was a preseason #18 that goes to show what preseason rankings are good for, same goes for Auburn at preseason #10 who we beat 36-0. LSU took two big hits from Florida and Georgia but can you imagine how big that game was when Nick Saban stepped into Tiger Stadium on the opposite side of the field? That was a war with a capital W. At week #10 Alabama was ranked #1 in the nation, no one seems to have posted that, and we remained #1 till the SEC championship game where Alabama was #1 and Florida was #2 we fell to #4 with the loss. Being paired up with Utah probably didn't set well with the team though they should have been happy with the Sugar Bowl but the loss of Andre Smith was huge. His backup went down in the first few minutes of the game so we started the game with a shuffled up OL, played a 3rd string left tackle most of the game and lost to Utah. We still finished the season 12-2, #6 in the nation and VT thinks they are superior to us hands down. All I can say is Bama will be there so bring your dancing shoes.

We have some very good rival fans who have posted on our boards for years. They have gained our respect not because they sucked up to us but because of how they conducted themselves. Many of them will tell you one of us has taken up for them at some time or another. It's a pity when the actions of a few ruin things for the rest of the fans. This is an Alabama Crimson Tide fan board and trying to hammer a rival idea into our head isn't going to happen.

:waves:

I've noticed most of the stupid fan behavior on message boards comes from nouveau riche programs. Over on SoonerFans.com I had to ban about fifty Missouri fans last year before the Big 12 championship game. Teams that have a solid tradition that goes back more than five or six years tend to recognize and respect other teams with tradition. By way of comparison, I think we only had to ban like two 'Bama fans back in '02 and '03. SelmaBamaFan still posts over there on occasion and is always a welcome visitor-I even met up with him while he was passing through Anchorage and had several adult beverages while watching football.
