What's the Problem?

Re: 18-5 - What's the Problem?

I think a lot of us would like to be in Florida's league - They excel in BB and FB

I see no problem with being dominate in both sports like the Gators.

You can have both

Re: 18-5 - What's the Problem?

I think yall have misuderstood my point. My point was simply that we have not yet beat a quality opponent, yet we have been murdered by several weak opponents. I mean losing to Auburn and Vandy by 20 is sad, especially for a top 20 team. To me, a top 20 team should be in the game no matter who they play. I am as happy as anyone that we have pulled out the last 3 games. I do understand as a fierce competitor myself that winning is winning. My point was simply that we have not been impressive and have not beat a quality team. I have seen high school teams play better defense(mine for example) Defense is all about want to. My high school coach always said that anyone can play defense it they want to. Defense is 10% ability and 90% desire. So i think we see where this team is hurting. Just my opinion. But here's to me hoping that we keep on winning not matter how impressive it is.

Re: 18-5 - What's the Problem?

Here's the answer to the question of why is the atmosphere lacking in SEC arenas. I lost count of the football references.

To be sure my love is football but when it comes to Bama I don't care if it is hop scotch I'm pulling for the Tide. My wife (who is a Tennessee fan) has to listen to me as I keep up to date on anything and everything Bama. At this point she even seems to be interested in what I have to say...maybe it is the excitement in my voice that draws her in. While we all know Bama is a football school I'm sure most of us still get bummed out if we lose in basketball or any other sport. My wife knows it is best to go shopping or be out of the house when a game is on. I'll never forget the year we beat Florida at Flordia (Shaun Alexander). She came in from shopping to find me on my knees (in a praying position)...I just looked up at her and said, "I've been like this for awhile." Same goes for basketball...I just wish I could have seen the Miss State game on TV (this past Wednesday)...that would have been so great to see Ron make that layup. I guess if you had to compare me to somebody as far as my love for Bama it would be CJK. I'm loud, I'm proud, and I love Bama!

Re: 18-5 - What's the Problem?

I think the fact that there were huge expectations at the beginning of the season has curbed some fans' love of this team. They thought we would be playing like Florida is right now... and we aren't. I still love this team though... i've been saying throughout the whole season to not jump to criticize but to sit back and let it all play out. I think we'll be satisfied when it is all said and done. RTR!

Re: 18-5 - What's the Problem?

I would like to know why we don't see Mikail Torrence (sp?) or Yamene Coleman any more. Torrence, in the middle of non-conference play was one of the first few off the bench and Coleman was not far behind. Against Arkansas, the first one, Coleman and Jemison were the only two that played hard. One of my criticisms of CMG has always been the way he has handled PT for his reserves. Hopefully, there is a good reason for them not playing.

Re: 18-5 - What's the Problem?

I hope you are right. I just don't see how a team we beat by 20 last year is so much better than us now when both teams basically consist of the same players. Obviously, I know that Ronald Steele's health has a lot to do with it

It has been said before on this board that apparently MT doesn't know the offense (at least to the satisfaction of CMG) and was wearing a soft cast last week on I believe his right hand. As for YC, if you have been to many games it should be pretty obvious why he doesn't get much time. He was given every opportunity early in the season to prove he could contribute and he failed to do so.

BamaMan,

Thanks for the answer. Did not know about MT being in a cast. As for Coleman, he did make mistakes but he also did some really good things at times. Hopefully his consistency will improve in practice and over the summer. I hope he sticks it out and does not transfer.

Well we have been selling out or close to it for most of our home games because of all the hype and expectations as they are. Just think if we ever did win it all! We would have to build a bigger gym, lol!;) The football references are for reasons I will not get into but I will say this, would CMG and his staff still be coaching at Duke, Kentucky, UNC or UCLA had he had the same record that he has at Bama at one of those schools for 9 years?;)

Hey I am satisfied already! We have a chance to make it to the dance if not we will have a chance to win an NIT championship something we have never accomplished. I love this team and hope for the best but in reality the reason we are not playing like the defending National Championship team is because we are not that team. But we were the last SEC team to beat them dating back to last season and if we had of played them at the start of this season I believe we could have beaten them then.

Now? We will be lucky to stay within shouting distance although our guys have the ability to play with Florida. How did we go from great to average is beyond me but we did!

Re: 18-5 - What's the Problem?

This is why Alabama basketball will never be an elite program.

We accept loosing...........

.500 in the conference......and it is accepted - ridiculous.

Does Kentucky accept being .500 in the conference?

Does Florida accept being .500 in the conference?

How much longer do we accept the state of our program and just say.......its ok to loose at Ole Miss, its ok to loose to ARK 2 times, its ok to get blown away by Auburn..............

Evidently its ok to win 1 SEC championship in the last how many years??......

Are we just content to make the NCAA and be on the brink of the bubble every year??...........

This post makes me sick

Re: 18-5 - What's the Problem?

Alright i am just wondering if you watch basketball, first it is "exception" not "acception", next yes we could have easily lost all those games but we didnt....the other team did. I would rather be winning than losing any day.... if the SEC only has one "solid" team (maybe i just dont understand the term) than why could the SEC get 6 or 7 in the tourney.... the fact is that most of the "bad" teams in the SEC are better than the "good" teams of a lot of conferences. The worst two teams statistically, LSU and South Carolina are still ranked in the top 80 RPI.....by comparison the worst team in the ACC, miami, is ranked 168.... all i want is to make the tourney and give ourselves a shot....if we keep improving than anything can happen once you get into the tournament.....all we have to do is win the ones we are supposed to win and we will get in, everything else just helps our seeding (ie. at Florida, Kentucky, at Tennessee)
With punctuation and grammar usage as poor as yours, you really shouldn't be correcting people. However, you make some good points about the league being fairly strong. I think the SEC has a lot of average basketball teams, with the exception of Florida. The Gators are very solid, but the rest of us just seem to slop around in mediocrity most of the time. I do hope some of the other SEC teams make good runs toward tournament time, but I am really doubting if we will be one of them.

Re: 18-5 - What's the Problem?

Bama has 3 losses by over 20 pts. Here are our 5 losses (road team score first).

Bama at ND 85-99
Bama at Ark 61-88
Bama at Vandy 73-94
Bama at AU 81-57
Ark at Bama 63-57

Bama 2006-07 Schedule with current results

My bad, thanks for the correction, Captain Technical. I amend my previous post to say that the five losses were by an average of 18.4 points per game. Wow, that does sound a lot better. Final Four, here we come.

I believe your "yours" should have an apostrophe as in "your's" to show ownership....unless i don't own my grammar usage. :)

Just messing with you... the only reason i posted the spelling mistake was because it was blatant and i was upset at the post.

Re: 18-5 - What's the Problem?

The Tide ate a loss they really couldn't afford -- not with at Florida, Kentucky and at Tennessee up next. If they can't get at least one of those, the heat will be extremely high entering the last three.

florida 106.67
kentucky 104.2
georgia 101.29
mississippi101.28
arkansas 101.05
vandy 100.39

miss st 99.74
tenn 99.63
lsu 97.38
auburn 97.08
ALABAMA 96.39
s carolina 95.06

I know that you'll never show us the formula...or offer any explanation other than "I just plug in the numbers", but MSU's rating alone makes me question your ratings. My guess is that MSU is rated so highly b/c they have lost a bunch of close games...which is somehow more important than only having 13 wins to go with 10 losses.

How ironic that this is basically the exact quote from ESPN's "Drive to 65" listed this morning???

I guess a 1 point win over UT or UK won't help our cause so get a roll of stamps and mail it in 'Bama!

Wow. Good catch. Didn't realize that people on this board had to plagiarize others' words to make a point.

Re: 18-5 - What's the Problem?

Miss St is not in the tourney either. Alabama will need to go 4-2 in the last 6 and have a good tourney. That should help their ratings.
