A buddy of mine that graduated with me is going to play at Arkansas next year. He of course has high hopes and as told me good things about their program and team.... He believes they will be a contender. Again he is going their to play so his opinion is scewed but i was just wondering what yall think about Arkansas and where they end up this season....

I for one can't tell you what they will do,But I don't believe Nutt left the cupboard bare for Petrino how he used them is his fault ,Is he a one dimensional Coach I don't know but this ain't Louisville and what ever that conference is Usa I think not sure. :BigA:

Arkansas's offense will be pretty darn good.... I just don't think their defense will be able to help (probably hurt more than help). They will finish 3rd or 4th in the SEC West, but contend for a bowl bid.

Thats what my friend claims. he said their special teams should be pretty good also. again i havent really heard much at all about Arkansas just info from my friend.

I've always though very highly of Petrino. I think he's one of the best offensive minds around, and a more than decent recruiter. I'm much happier that he is at Arky than Auburn.

I actually think Arky could be the dark horse this year in the west, more so than Ole Miss. I think Mallett is an excellent Pro QB, and Michael Smith could be a terror. If they answer some ?'s on defense, they could really compete. Supposedly they've recruited DB's that may start this year, but on field production obviously remains to be seen.

I agree with the earlier post about the cupboard being quite bare, especially after the Springdale defections... but also note their schedule is not exactly easy....

- @ Bama, Florida and LSU
- cross-conference of Florida, Georgia and USC
- vs Texas A&M in what will essentially by an Aggie home game

My prediction is 5-7 (losses to Georgia, Bama, TAMU, Florida, Ole Miss, USC and LSU; wins over Missouri St, Auburn, Eastern Michigan, Troy and Miss St). TAMU is a toss-up but erring on the side of that resurgent program vs Petrino.

Special teams play gives you an edge against equal competition. Offense can give you an edge in the Pac 10 and Big 12... Defense wins in the SEC.

Arkansas should end up with an above .500 record. Their offense will be sound. No matter what you think of Petrino as a person, the guy can coach.

The game against Arkansas last year was closer than the final score indicated. They moved the ball on us pretty well, but had two pick sixes and a turnover on downs at the goal line.

Hard to say, but I never underestimate the Hogs. IMO Petrino is still a couple years away from having the type talent he needs to fit his offense.

Re: Arkansas

This is just my opinion but I do believe Arkansas will be very good in the near future. If Coach Saban would have declined our offer I wish Bobby Petrino would be our head coach right now (although Butch Davis would also have been nice). My crystal ball says in the coming years the west will be a three horse race between Alabama, LSU, and Arkansas.
P.S. I reserve the right to be wrong.

I don't know what A&M team you've been watching, but the Aggies will probably finish dead last in their division this year, even behind Baylor. After Fran, they have a real lack of defensive talent (where have I heard that before), and a Petrino offense might have an easy day against them.

Plus, Arkansas's aggressive play will put them on either side of an upset or two (see LSU win and the Miss State loss last year), so I think they will get at least seven wins. All the Ole Miss hype has made some people overlook them in their predictions. They can be a dangerous team.

Petrino's teams are known for offense and as always their defense will struggle. He never recruits defensive people and it shows with the Hogs giving up a average of 31 points a game last year !! He did recruit 1 5* kid and he is a DB the #1 prospect in Arkansas and is rated as the nations #3 CB but he needs alot more to turn this defense around cause they were push around by everyone last year !!!! Would love to see the Tide hang 49 on them again this year :BigA:
