We could be on the cusp of a truly great season even with the really difficult schedule. IMO our success is reliant on 3 things

1.Ty being at least a good QB in the way Howard was for Ohio State, or Bennett was for UGA (doesn't need to be Bryce or Tua)
2. our OL plays at a high level - the worse our OL is the better Ty will need to be
3. the DL guys that are expected to make jumps actually make those jumps (Smith and Overton specifically)

I really think we are being slept on right now nationally. I don't think people realize how good our defense was last year and that it should actually be improved this year.

The entire success or lack thereof of our season can be summed up in those three items.

**Of course we are. People thought Deboer was coming in and picking up a Ferrari and getting back out on the racetrack for a 11-12 win season. When we went 9-4 and losses to the teams we lost to, the outlook on DeBoer and Alabama took a massive hit. We're now viewed as a second tier SEC team until proven otherwise.

So Alabama is being looked at as a second tier SEC team? lol ok. 👍

I can name four teams from last year who'd easily say we're not a top tier SEC team. We may see ourself as top tier but not everyone does anymore.
It's been 5 years since a NC. The GOAT is gone. I get it.

But I still don't know of a better coach we could have hired. Last year was NOT because of him. We know why we've sputtered for 2 years.

It's all about to change. Happy days are here again!

I agree with all that, but until we prove to the world that the reason for the sputtering is truly gone, and what this team can do without the handcuffs, they're going to continue to doubt us.

I agree we hired the best available HC.

But I do not give him a pass for last year.

What happened vs Tenn, OU, and Mich is 100% his responsibility.

He could have made changes in game that could have affected outcomes and just didn’t make them.

We've been over this several times. You can't adjust if some of the personnel on the field is unable to execute the adjustments..........

And sometimes in year one you tolerate some stuff to set yourself up for a better year two.

I’d argue that no you don’t .

You don’t throw 3 games away with next years starter on the Bench.

Anybody is free to not like my opinion but as long as I’m not breaking TF rules my opinion on this won’t be policed by others.

I am going to guess Simpson/Russell.

I also think that our offense will be much improved from last season, especially the running game. I don't think that defenses will crowd the line the way they did to contain Milroe. They can't because Simpson appears to be a much better passer, or so I think.

If the defensive front plays well, I think that we will be very strong contenders.

Of course, the above is jmo.

I respect your opinion. I too do not understand why he never pulled the starter and gave TS a shot in some of those games in which we struggled.

To you and me and so many others, it seems crystal clear that he should have.

But, there was a reason(s) he didn't and I have to respect he knew some things none of us did. He's coached more football games in many seasons other than last year and that collective experience led him to ride it out without the #2 in those games.

And, even as we would sometimes remind ourselves with CNS. No coach is perfect. CKD might have been wrong just like CNS was wrong about personnel decisions.

But without rehashing the whole discussion, CKD must've believed it was a dynamic that was bigger than simply subbing TY.

And lest we forget, CNS made the same decision the year before and did the very same thing All YEAR LONG, except for the game that shall not be named in South Florida.

He inherited a less than ideal situation last year with all the youth in the defensive backfield and the QB situation. But we all saw things we did not like last year.

Player issues aside, it was a big adjustment for DeBoer. Geography, prestige/importance of the position, going from hunter to hunted/hated, and a lot of newness in his coaching staff and a whole team that was new to him. And rather than take a sledgehammer to everything, he eased into it cautiously, That's the vibe I got. And it's probably what most level headed coaches would do.

So we are about to find out what the real DeBoer looks like this fall. Hopefully he learned a lot from last season.

I hope we enter the season viewed as a Second Rate Team.

We've been over this quite a few times, too.
A deal was made with the devil. Pure and simple.
Believe what you will about that.

Yeah we have.

We’ve talked about all of it over and over again and I didn’t miss much of the discussion.

Was the ‘deal’ in writing?

Did it have no exit clauses from performance issues?

No one has confirmed that part of the story one way or another.

So in light of that it’s my opinion that a guy making $10 Million dollars a year to be in charge of the FB program has the power and latitude to make performance based roster moves when not making those moves loses at least 3 games.

He’s also responsible for everything.

He gets credit for the wins and blame for the losses.

I’ve never heard of a HC getting a free pass for throwing 3 games in the trash.
