Will Tua see time against UGA ?

Hurts is wildly overrated...... Look at where Alabama is ranked in red zone, 3rd down conversions, time of possession, or most any important offensive metric.

How about looking at the only metric that really matters, the scoreboard. Hurts has lost only 2 games as a starter and has lead Bama to the NCG both years of his career so far. When he left the field in last year’s NCG, Bama was winning. How about backing off on the Hurts disrespect. I swear if I was a mod folks who make post like that one, or threads like this, would be banned. We just won a semifinal game and people are still calling for a QB replacement, un-freaking-believable.

Oklahoma's offensive line is really good. Rodney Anderson was gashing them at times. Like against Clemson, this game comes down to the Alabama offensive line and Hurts making plays. Georgia will score more than Clemson to be sure and we need our offense to be able to keep pace.

UGA does not have some kind of offensive juggernaut. OU’s defense is bad, ranked in the 50s. Bama and UGA’s offenses are actually pretty comparable. Problem for UGA is they are going to try and beat Bama at our own game. That doesn’t work too good most of the time, just ask LSU.

Oklahoma's defense looked like Swiss cheese. No doubt. They just weren't very good. I think that's one reason why Baker had to be as good as he was in the game. Their offense was very good but the defense was garbage. Bottom line is that Hurts is going to have to play better against Georgia than he did against Clemson. He missed some wide open throws and the fumble to open the second half was awful. I seriously cringe every time he has the ball in his hands. He just dosen't look like a natural QB. Very athletic player that would probably fit well in a triple option offense but not a true QB. He will have to make plays with his arm against Georgia. That's the bottom line.

I don't believe we'll see him split any time until next season. I'm sure more wrinkles will be added for him then but I don't see it now.

The disrespect to Hurts constantly shown on this forum is astounding. He's lead us to the title game two years in a row in his two years of playing. Stop staring at that new young grass on the other side of the fence & freaking enjoy this pretty damn delicious grass right here at your feet.

I'm more interested in all of our RBs getting the right reps against UGA rather than Tua.

Don’t disagree with your sentiments on disrespect toward Jalen, and yet the grass he’s offering isn’t that delicious. Absent the two INTs, that game had all the makings of a 10-6 final...

I'm not going to pull any punches with this. I don't think Tua will play next week at all, and I understand why. Throwing him into his first real competitive game time, not a blowout, against a good UGA defense in the national title game is probably not the best idea. That being said Jalen is not a very good QB in the system that Bama runs. Clemson's super talented defensive line had nothing to do with him standing in a clean pocket and throwing the ball low on multiple occasions to wide open WR's, under throwing a wide open Ridley on the flea-flicker, throwing a rocket at Bo on the swing pass that should have been an easy completion and first down. I was excited about him last year. He struggled at times as a true freshman, and it was understandable. Now we are dealing with a guy that has has been the starter in almost 30 games, and he is no better at reading a defense and delivering a ball on time than he was against USC last season. He shows flashes and I keep hoping the light will come on for him like it did with Coker or he will get comfortable and sling it around like Blake Sims, man I loved watching Blake Sims throw the ball deep. AJ grew so much from his first year starting to his second, and Jalen simply hasn't done that. You're telling me that he is standing there holding the ball for what seems like an eternity and that all of the crazy talented skill guys Bama has are all being covered for 5 to 10 seconds? It is not happening. He missed Ridley the first time on the TD pass to him. Ridley was wide open and Jalen was standing in a clean pocket and simply didn't see him or didn't trust what he was seeing. The development simply isn't there against better defenses. The coaching staff is having to manage the offense and Jalen instead of being able to turn it loose like you saw with AJ, Blake, and Coker towards the end of his year starting.

It is a square peg and round hole issue. Jalen hasn't been able to effectively run a more pro style offense or make the right reads on a consistent basis with the RPO's. Jalen fits in an option style offense like GA Tech runs, or a spread option like the barn ran with Nick Marshall at QB. I think his skill set fits those types of schemes better. I do think Tua is the perfect fit for the offense CNS obviously wants to run. He is a natural passer, and has shown the ability in the time he has played, and I know it was when the game was out of reach, to spread the ball around and make really good throws. I hope there is an open competition and Tua is given a fair shot to win the job next season. I think he is the best option moving into next year. Tua will have had two springs, two fall camps, and one whole season to adjust to the college game. I don't want to see Bama waste these talented skill players. I'm really excited about Jeudy, Smith, and Ruggs. They look like three number one WR's. What a recruiting haul. They need to get the ball. I'm not happy that I think this way. I want Hurts to prove me wrong, but I don't think he will. I've watched and played football for a long time, and I know what I see on the screen and in the stadium. Jalen is a fine young man, and has always carried himself with class and dignity. That doesn't change the play on the field. Put second year AJ or first year starter Blake Sims in this offense and what would happen? It sure wouldn't be 120 yards passing. Call me an eeyore or what ever other names you like, but I'm right. I think Bama can beat UGA next week. They are tailor made for Bama's defense to maul, but Bama will have to win with one arm tied behind their back.

Yeah, you'll get hammered for this, but you're right.

Very well said, thank you. If you can, go back an watch the Clemson game in command/sky view. From that vantage point you can clearly see our passing game limitations. I just hope that this doesn’t hurt us in recruiting, which imho already has.

There are some legit people here who have that very fear. It's already happening and will continue to happen.

In this past game Saban knew he didn't need to out score Clemson after the first two drives. He just needed to maintain the field position and not give them easy points with turnovers. Sure there was the fumble but for the most part he knows Jalen is not going to turn the ball over. If this had been a shoot out like the last two years I wonder if we would have seen Tua.

I think it will depend on what the flow of the game is and if there is a need to be more dynamic to win or if safe and steady will win the day.

I agree with everything you have said. I would love to see JH come around in the passing game but have seen little/no improvement from last year.

Play calling needs to be addressed as well

I believe this is an objective summary. I wrote a reply generally echoing your comments then I thought about what the Clemson Defense would have done to JT Barrett and Ohio State last night and it gave me pause. It would have surely been an ugly beat down. It is as difficult for CNS and the coaching staff to weigh all of this even with far more information/experience than we have. I am going to turn it over and let them wrestle with the conundrum they have to solve.

I thought “inside sources” said he was going to play last night.

The idea that Jalen's win/loss record is all that matters is pure folly. We could win every game between now and 2020 but if our offense doesn't improve it could have serious consequences for the long term health of the program.

This is true - JT's poor passing has killed our ability to recruit receivers at OSU.

That would really suck if we went undefeated until 2020.

And if our OL doesn't do a better job in pass protection it doesn't matter if you have Aaron Rodgers under center, he's still going to be running for his life.
