We don't play well in T-Town...I think we will end up winning, but I think y'all will have the lead around the 10:00 minute mark of the 2nd half (Per our regular M.O.)...You will have your way with us inside, but Lofton is starting to get his shot back, and I think we'll have enough outside to win

Disclaimer: That prediction is based on watching one Bama game this year and reading this board and box scores on the internet

I tend to agree with you. I don't think our team knows how to win a tight game in the last 10 minutes against a team the caliber of Tennessee. If we do happen to have a lead late, all your people will need to do is put us on the line for the last 3 mins. and get a rebound. Instant turnover.

We beat Auburn not because we played great defense...better, but by no means great. I still saw lapses of that "Hurry up and score so we can get the ball back" defense. It's the defense my Denver Nuggets also play, but Bama doesn't have their firepower.

We won because we shot so well, 54%, and protected the ball better, and because it was, after all, only Auburn.

If we shoot and hustle like we did Sat. we have a good shot at Tenn. I agree with the previous poster, if it's close, free throws will beat us.

For us to win we have to have all of these things IMO:

1. Tennessee to have an off night shooting.
2. Hendrix and Riley to both have big games.
3. Keep Hollinger involved.
4. Very loud crowd.
5. Win the rebounding and turnover margins.

I actually think we can win it, but we can't try to run up and down the court with them, they thrive off that style of play.

I'm not sure we have a chance other than running with them. This team looks so much better running than standing around, it's not even funny. If we go back to the high post constipation, we're dead. And, we have one guy with a shot at defending Lofton, and he can't get off the bench.

Problem is, so does UT. (and they aren't starting a freshman point guard)

Lofton may be the least of our problems. He is not shooting the ball particularly well and looks a step slow compared to the rest of the greyhounds on that team. I think a key is Richard's defense in the middle and whether he can stay out of foul trouble. They have a passle of active, athletic big men (like Clemson) that could cause big problems.

Our young guards seem to feed off each other, and Hillman puts surprising energy into his defense. The key: will they take care of the ball well enough for CMG to give them minutes?

Twin, you're right about Lofton. He's a step slower this year, and he looks really bulked up. Can any of the Vol fans offer insight?

It's puzzling to me that we have not been a running team in CMG's tenure, especially this year since we are so guard heavy. When he was at Murray, I salivated at the style of play his teams had, and was looking forward to that style of play here. I understand that a conference like the OVC does not get the big men that can be recruited to the SEC, but why not press and run with this team?

If Tubbs is not brought in to defend Lofton, then it will be a long night IMO.

Attack the press and be aggressive. Don't settle for just getting the ball across half court. The key is the first pass should not go to the point guard, but the 2nd pass vs the press should. After the initial trap, your primary ballhandler will have the ball and start the run out on the break.

Two years ago UT came into this game ranked in or near the top 10 and we ran them out of Coleman with a 57 point first half because we attacked their press the entire game. The game was never close. Instead of being passive, we forced the ball down their throat because we had 2 on 1 & 3 on 2 the entire game. Gee & Hendrix were having a dunk contest.

Unfortunately, I think foul shooting will be our doom tomorrow night and I see us falling just short, although I hope I'm wrong.

In one word. NO. Point guard play is not where it needs to be. For that matter shooting guard play isnt either. No true center. No D. We beat a horrible auburn team. Bottom line, not intense enough and dont play with any type emotion, Defense is non existant:eek2:. Hendrix, and Hollinger are the only bright spots this year. Gee has not progress like I thought he would. I though no one would be able to stop him this year. Riley is to inconsistant. We dont hit free throws either.
