Yet another reason why I hate FOX broadcasting

It's how the transmit the data over their network. I believe they're the only broadcast network to use MPEG transport stream to deliver their video. Most others use some form of data compression for the satellite and re-encode at the affiliate. Fox's method is more expensive but it delivers a richer and more consistent video than other methods.

What I noticed is there was not one mention of the Bama/Tx game. I know it is going to be on a rival network, but you would have thought they would have had a segment to discuss it. I don't think they even mentioned it during the halftime show. Ignoring the obvious made them look too loyal to Fox than interested in college football!

Not to mention the 40 some-odd cheerleader/band shots in the game. I'm so tired of Fox's college football. Their NFL coverage isn't even this bad and it is terrible.

Some pretty funny comments on the "random" Tostito munching moment:

-I want chips and salsa now, at 9:45am. Thanks.

-I don't know about anyone else, but I could have done with more "Reese's" logos during the halftime show.

-Oh well, since Pepsi Co. funnels money into this thing, they can pretty much do what they want. But very funny nonetheless.

-Funny, the Sugar bowl featured shots of Fox analysts with their hands inside of Tim Tebow.

-During the broadcast I found the shot of the cameraman eating Tostitos kind of awsome in its complete randomness. There wasn't even any audio commentary. It was just like 2 seconds of a bag of Tostitos and audio of a crumpling bag. And at least it wasn't yet another shot of the flag girls in the band. Man, they really do love their band shots, don't they?

-And yet for all that product placement, I will never ever think of it as the "tostitos Fiesta Bowl," but always as the "Fiesta Bowl." On the other hand "Poulan Weedeater Independence Bowl" will be scarred into my brain until the day I die

-The yellow Tostito's logo on the score banner at the top had me thinking there was a flag on every play.

Personally Speaking..... FOX makes me appreciate VERNE and GARY. I know....... There have been countless threads on how bad those guys are but they are light-years better than FOX college football. IMHO.

I'm not sure that I even noticed the Tostito's ad, nor did I find the cheerleaders distracting, and as a matter of fact I enjoyed the presentation of that game more than most -- though I did have the sound turned down and was listening to the radio broadcast on WWL out of New Orleans.

But as far as the general theme raised here, I am in hearty agreement.

Permit me to mention Nick Saban's motto: Don't let distractions get your mind off what you are doing.

Wouldn't another way of putting that be: The world would be a lot better place to live if it weren't for all the distactions.

What does the therapist do for his client? Why, he spends hours upon hours trying to get the patient/client to learn not to be distracted and to focus upon doing what he wants and needs to do.

And what does our society do? Why, it furnishes every distraction known to mankind ever since man first ventured out of a cave a million years ago.

And what does FOX and ESPN and all the other networks do but furnish distractions? And as if the commercials were not ENOUGH distraction, the camera work, the color commentating, you name it, is all additional to the actual game that you are trying to watch.

What would be wrong with just showing us the game? Yes, throw in some advertising to pay for it all, provide a good low key announcer and color man, and LET US SEE THE GAME.

I think this would explain why some of us were having problems during the Sugar Bowl. We got little "mini freezes" the entire game. During the Fiesta Bowl, there were none. Hmmmmmmm.

But yes, when our Fox feed is at 100% it is fantastic in HD!!

Fox College games always have the NFL feel to them. One reason most of us probably don't like them. I can't stand watching NFL games because of all the dancing robots. Really Fox? Dancing Robots?

The above video is all I need to hate Fox. Although, I will admit, Bill Billick was pretty good when he called the UF-Cincy game. Anyone who constantly takes shots at himself and his ability to coach a football team is ok in my book.

Did anyone catch the impromptu Tostitos advertisement in the middle of the fiesta bowl? They cut to a shot of the bench where the camera man had a bag of tortilla chips in front of the camera, from which he then grabbed a chip from and ate it.

I actually thought that was kinda funny....
guess I was alone on that ha

I like how he basically said (without explicitly saying it of course): "no one should be critical of NFL GMs and coaches being skeptical of Tebow's ability to transition to the pros because I wanted Kyle Boller and that ended up sinking my career...so when your livelihood relies on deciding who is the likely All-Pro from the likely bust, you'll see the concerns."

I wish we had Time Warner Cable, I heard they were going put the ax on Fox after 12 31. We have Cablevison, but I did see the ads. I hate Fox......

Unfortunately, they cut a deal with Rupert in the final hours. Rupert wanted $1 per month PER SUBSCRIBER to allow Time Warner to continue to broadcast the local Fox affiliate stations. That's right - the ones that go out for free over the air.

I personally was looking forward to a Fox News-free cable connection. But it was not to be.

"We lie - you decide"

IMO (regarding sports), Fox has the best HD broadcasts, though CBS is really good at times as well.

ESPN's HD is average at best.

I believe ESPN still broadcasts sporting events in 720 instead of 1080 like Fox and CBS. I think they are working toward broadcasting everything in 1080 and announced a new 3-D HD channel that starts during the World Cup this summer.

I didn't mind the camera shots of the TCU majorettes. I found them to be much more exciting than the actual game. :biggrin2:

I thought the majorettes were pretty nice as well, and the TCU cheerleaders were fantastic.
I'm with y'all on this one. Thwy were much more interesting to me than the game until about 10 minutes left in the 4th.

And I don't know the specifics of it all regarding how much the sponsorship costs versus how much 4 hours of straight advertising costs, but I've never bought a single product as a result of their sponsoring a game and I would venture a guess that many others are in the same boat.
