BREAKING YouTube.TV drops Disney/ESPN/ABC & an alternate

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

Just a reminder for those of you who did the fubo trial on Saturday that the trial expires tomorrow so you'll need to either cancel or subscribe. If you cancel, you can't do another trial (at least from the same address & email).

A quick google search finds this:
  • New accounts are forbidden: Fubo explicitly states that attempting to get a second free trial by creating new or alternate accounts is a material breach of the agreement.
  • Potential consequences: Fubo can ban you from accessing their platform and services if they detect you are trying to get another free trial.
  • No second trials: Once a free trial is used, another is not granted, especially if you cancel before the trial ends, according to the Fubo Help Center.
  • Subscription is the only option: If you want to use the service again, you will have to sign up for a paid subscription.

So then your option is to do a trial of sling, directv, hulu live, or get the espn app,

I personally refuse to buy the ESPN app. I’m not hating on those who do. I fear the conventional way of viewing college football is slowly gravitating to specialized apps or bundles (ie. more money for the Disneys of the world).

I would think that eventually YTTV and the mouse would kiss and make up, but when this happened with Spectrum two years ago, they had it resolved well before this much time had passed. If YTTV throws their hands up and tells Disney to kick rocks, then I'd think that would be suicide for them. So I wouldn't think they would take that risk. But, the longer this goes on.....you gotta wonder

I am just cancelling YTTV and using the antenna and getting the ESPN app for the near term. We will see how it goes. It will save money during football season.

For YTTV subscribers who keep it you may be able to get $60 ($10/mo for 6 months) off your subscription

I tried to find this as well and my account didn't have it. YTTV must have taken it off after the info made it to Reddit and co.

I'd switch to another service because how ridiculous this all is but there's not a better service in my opinion and I really would like to not send any more money to the Mouse.

I agree!

But in the end, the mouse is getting it anyways...

I left Spectrum when they had this same showdown with the mouse back during the 2023 season. Even after they got it resolved, I still didn't want to go back. I just don't think there is a service that won't get hosed by mouse at some point, and sooner rather than later.

Exactly. So it was Spectrum in '23, DirecTV last year, and YTTV this year.

That's why I'm just in a holding pattern with YTTV, assuming they reach a settlement, maybe that means a couple of years without the drama until it comes up in the cycle again!

agreed. It's why I put it last - but depending on circumstances could be the best / only available option to watch games for some.

I wonder if Jimmy Sexton is a consultant for the mouse...?

Jimmy Sexton is a vulture and there needs to be rules put in place so these agents don't have so much leverage against the schools. Finebaum was talking about what happens when a certain percentage of the coaches, assistant coaches and players in CFB are tied up between the same few agents. The agents end up having all the leverage and can basically dictate everything. It's why these guaranteed buyouts have gotten so out of hand.

IIRC, Sling offers a renewable day pass for like $6.

It's bigger than that - Sexton works at Creative Artists Agency, probably the most powerful entertainment management company in the world. I've several clients managed by CAA - the breadth of the company's influence is incredible.

I am fortunate enough to be at the game this weekend, so I will give it until the OU game before I start hunting for alternates. I’m am just so tired of this deliberate drama. These companies plan these negotiations the same way divorced parents use their kids as leverage and props to dig at each other. It’s intentionally designed to cause the most amount of disruption for the actual customer.

Yes, this is what Finebaum was talking about several weeks ago when the James Franklin fiasco was the front story. He basically said companies like this have a monopoly on the market, where their client base represents so much of the player/coach pool that they can effectively keep schools from hiring entire staffs unless they agree to the terms of what the head coach wants. Once it gets to that point, rules need to be implemented because negotiating in good faith and all the things that the free market is supposed to represents, goes out the window.
