Must have been Life Buoy

A Palm Bay woman and her boyfriend were arrested Monday for child abuse after the couple went old school to punish their 8-year-old daughter for swearing.

They washed her mouth out with soap.

...

Police claim Adriyanna Herdener and Wilfredo Rivera went too far by placing a bar of soap in the girl's mouth and letting it stay for 10 minutes. Herdener did not intervene in the discipline.

The girl eventually vomited and Rivera took her to the local hospital, where hospital staff called police.

I wonder if they should arrest the photographer of the picture in the article as well...

It is all Homer's fault...

upon reading this story a few times i now agree that the parents should have been arrested. anyone that is so stupid as to take their kid to a hospital for eating soap is a complete moron and deserves to be neutered.

If they'd have arrested parents for washing mouths out with soap in the 70's, my mom would have gotten the death penalty!!!!! I ate plenty of soap in my pre teen years. :drool5:

I think 10 minutes is a bit too long, and to put the bar of soap in the child's mouth sounds strange to me - not just "washing his mouth out" - however, why aren't the police out arresting real criminals instead of parents disiciplining their children.

I used to make my kids put baking soda on their toothbrush to wash their mouth out. I had enough sense to know that I could back up such a nasty tasting experience as being good for whitening teeth if my kids ever complained. It is good to have a social work background. :)

Oh good Lord! I have to agree with gmart on this one. If you're dumb enough to leave the soap in there for ten minutes, then be surprised when the kid throws up, then actually take them to the ER, you are indeed too stupid to raise a kid.

When a deaf kid uses profanity, do they wash his hands out with soap? :)

When I was a kid I once bit and cut my tongue.

My father put merthiolate on it. I think that constitutes child abuse, but the statute of limitations has probably expired.

Hey - I use Arm & Hammer toothpaste which has baking soda in it, and it tastes pretty good. Of course, it's not ALL baking soda.

That was smart of you to think of baking soda as a punishment.
