**Fall Practice Thread**

I wouldn't count out Ely just yet. He's a gamer. Looked good in the A-Day game and is familiar with the system.

Alec Morris has an absolute cannon on his right shoulder. I'll be surprised if he doesn't end up number two.
I sure hope so. It's looking a little thin after AJ. And he does have the size to play in the sec. It's weird to me that when talking about our running backs no one really mentions Jalston Fowler.

To hear some they already have TJ playing over Dee Hart and Jalston. Well who ever takes a leading roll I think were going to be in good shape.

Eddie will be the man but IMO the distribution of carries will be much more balanced than in recent years. I am a big fan of Jalston and hope to see him run some people over.

From my people who have been around the team all summer and who have seen portions of the first practices, the word I keep hearing the most is the same word we heard all year about LSU: "Depth". And not just depth, but QUALITY depth. I feel good about this season.

After we lost Ro McClain, Javy, Kareem, and Cody, there was an adjustment. We lost a ton of snaps there..But even in losing Zeus, Upshaw, and the rest of the gang that bailed after last season, we still have Nico who has been in & out as a starter since midway through his true freshman season (when Hightower went down with the bum knee)..Same with Mosely. And This will be Lester's 3rd season as a starter. So while we most certainly lost a LOT in terms of experience, we have enough guys coming back who can cover the void. None of them are as "Can't Miss" as Hightower, Upshaw, and certainly not Barron, I think we're deep and talented enough to make it through our schedule unscathed. The key will be keeping our offensive line intact and keep AJ upright.

Good points, Mack. It certainly appears that Nico has settled in and feels comfortable in a leadership role on the D. With him and Lester returning this yr, I think some of us will be surprised at how really good this defense will be.

I'm always worried about something. It's both heriditary and congenital.

Choices this year are, in order:
-- Lacy. Is he really healthy? As I have posted several times, if turf toe results in surgery, it's bad, bad news. The name of the injury doesn't begin to describe its gravity. "Turf toe." Sound kind of like hangnail. But it can be career threatening, especially for an athlete who relies on side-to-side movement. Even for regular people who are not elite athletes, it can be crippling.

I sincerely hope I'm overly pessimistic. But my position today is that every CPG over an average of 10 that Lacy gets in the last four games is a bonus. I cannot find anything on the net that would inspire confidence without crimson-colored glasses.

-- Backup QB. AJ is proven. And we have the best Alabama OL since the late '70s. Maybe the best ever. Certainly one of the strongest college lines for 2012. But all it takes is one play, and that might not even require contact. If AJ goes down, we go from a BSCNCG contender to a team that struggles against quality opposiiton. If he goes down while the Arkansas game is still in doubt or earlier, it pretty well cooks our NC hopes.

LB -- We're reloading. DBs -- we'll be fine by game 3. Punting should be better, if only because of maturity brought on by age.

PK inside 40 is sound. But KOs and FGs of 40+, we regressed last year, and not just against LSU. This has to get better. Shelley's leg, while accurate, just isn't all that strong. He can make them, but has to kick a low ball at 40+. If he's the man, look for more of those to get blocked this year as the opposition prepares for that weakness.

On the positive side, I'm crying about one RB, a backup QB, and 40+ yard FGs. Not many teams would trade places with us right now.

correct indeed. Robert Lester is one of the smarter players at his position i've seen and with the experience of Miliner I think our secondary will be ok. Similar with the defensive front. As you said, in a lot better position than last time we came off a national championship.

Um, have you considered MAOs? :D

I really appreciate all the post, pictures, videos that Kyallie puts together especially for the first practice.

Some us us live so far away that Internet news is all we get and we appreciate all the work you put into sorting, selecting & posting all the great information.

So a BIG THANK YOU for making this weekend so GREAT & keeping us Alabama fan outside the state informed.

I just don't see why everyone thinks the secondary won't be ready. We have two starters coming back plus game tested reserves. One corner "might" have to catch up but this group will be great. I give it two series with Michigan, then watch out!!

DR won't even have 1 good series against our D. This is gonna be the Capitol 1 bowl all over again.
