Re: New Discussion Thread on Possible Coaching Changes...

Not a lot in it. Said that no other time did he think in CS years at Bama did he think he was leaving, but this time he wasn't sure. Just is uncertainty was the source of anxiety for Bama fans.
I was not worried st all until Earle posted about Phil Savage interview, whic I can't pull up on my iPad if anyone can give a recap, I would really appreciate it. Thanks

Re: New Discussion Thread on Possible Coaching Changes...

I listened to that Phil Savage interview. He sounds like someone who knows that a possibility realistically exists that ends with CNS changing his state of residence. Well, DUH. We all know that, right? None of us is in such denial that we don't understand that now would be the time for CNS to make his departure if he's going to do so.

What NO ONE knows for certain is just how CNS arranges his priorities. What WE may think of as a logical order of priorities, he may not. Why are we spending so much emotional energy fretting over something that MIGHT, but also MIGHT NOT occur? Worse yet, why are there actual Tide fans who seems so shocked that this could occur? This is the man's JOB, plain and simple. He doesn't love the university the way many of us do. How could he? He doesn't have the level of sentimentality we do about it to cloud his reasoning. He is a professional and he is weighing his options like all professionals do when they consider how they wish to evolve (or not evolve as the case may be). It's actually a smart thing to do - take time to think over one's options, rather than make a too-quick decision. Heck, it took me nearly two years to come to a decision about my career (leaving private practice and going into an employed position). Why shouldn't it at least take him a matter of weeks or even months?

If he goes, I'll be sad but thankful for the contribution he's made to the University. I would support Kirby Smart as the next HC because I believe we'd be best served to keep as much of the "Process" in place as possible.

Hopefully, he stays and retires at Bama. I can see him winning several more titles in the coming years.

Re: New Discussion Thread on Possible Coaching Changes...

My only thoughts are...
After all of Ms. Terry's statements and CNS' statements about ending his coaching career in Ttown, it just seems illogical that he would leave as it will provoke some in the media to fire up his credibility issue. I don't see him leaving, but if he doesn't sign by the end of the week or counter (not sure how these things work, if all numbers were agreed to beforehand, etc.) something is afoot.
Then again, I didn't see Bama losing to the barn so what do I know....

Re: New Discussion Thread on Possible Coaching Changes...

I, too, am a bit nervous. In my mind, it makes no sense for him to leave. However, it has been eerily quiet from our side... With that said, I obviously want Coach to stay, but only if he wants to be here. I just cannot shake how it seems that everything has went into "lockdown" in regards to news. An unsigned contract is not helping, either. It just doesn't make sense that anyone would even entertain the idea of leaving what has been built at Bama...

Well, Saban IS known to be gravely concerned about how the media's perception of him...

I don't know whether he'll stay or go. I feel about 90% certain he'll stay, but I don't know.

Re: New Discussion Thread on Possible Coaching Changes...

I think it really bothered Saban how the whole Miami thing went down. I could be wrong about that, but I do. He's not stupid. If after everything he and Miss Terri said he left, it would be very bad for him.
Now, I do agree with that.

Re: New Discussion Thread on Possible Coaching Changes...

The Austin newspaper guy was on Finebaum earlier. He brought up something I had always thought but had not brought it up here. Saban will most likely see the LHN as a liability and not an asset. He has several appearances that he would be contractually obligated to do - INCLUDING a 15 minute segment during practice every day where he speaks to the LHN cameras.

The guy asked Paul - does that sound like Saban to you? Finebaum laughed and said "Uh - No". They guy said "me either". Add him to the list of journalists who are saying "It could happen - but he doesn't think it will"

However...what is a good way to handle it?????? :conf3:

I heard that. That guy didn't believe Saban would come to Texas at all.

Yeah, he didn't handle it the right way, but it had nothing to do with the media's approach. The media also grilled him over his "Pearl Harbor" analogy but I don't think that really mattered.
He wasn't happy with how he handled it because he didn't do it the right way. Not because the media grilled him over it.

Re: New Discussion Thread on Possible Coaching Changes...

So Bill Battle didn't comment on Saban...

@McMurphyESPN

Alabama AD Bill Battle told @ESPN he has no comment on Saban's contract status or if concerned about Texas

@DanWolken

Alabama AD Bill Battle on Saban: "He's working his butt off on recruiting. We're focused on recruiting and playing Oklahoma."

Asked about the status of extension talks, Battle repeated: "The Sugar Bowl is where his efforts are and that's where mine are."

not sure what that means, since I didn't know of any media issues at all until after the fact, at which time (after the fact) I'm pretty sure CNS realized he didn't handle it the best way.

It's stuff like this that are making people nervous. Didn't Mack say something about recruiting when he said he was still the coach at Texas?

What we want to hear is "we are finalizing a new contract"... as long as we get that sort of narrative, we're going to stay nervous. It doesn't mean he's leaving, but it means his staying isn't a done deal.

Re: New Discussion Thread on Possible Coaching Changes...

The most logical thing I've heard in this whole thing was Ian Fitzsimmons at lunch on his show here. He went through each name logically and coherently starting with Saban. Doesn't think he's coming here but does think its a hefty raise to keep him. He eliminated the other names - logically at least (Meyer ain't leaving OSU, the Harbaughs won't talk until eliminated from playoffs and thus unlikely, etc, etc). He settled on Jimbo, noting Sexton is agent for both & they can get Fisher for half of what Saban will cost and he's much younger.

Didn't say it is or ain't happening but was the most sober & logical look I've seen thus far.
Jimbo Fisher? I assume that's who he meant. I'd be pretty shocked if he made the move before the BCSCG. If Texas still doesn't have a HC on Jan 7th, I'd think that'd make it a lot more possible.
