Re: Plain Trouble on "Da Plains" (all AU posts here)

He needs to get away from Gus. He's coached his entire career under him and as a result carries the rep of being nothing but a clipboard holder. For him, it might end up being a great career move assuming he's successful.
Is probably the best for both parties. By having someone that played under him in high school and followed him to every stop, Gus had an OC that wasn't going to really push back. Plus, Rhett has the reputation of only Gus' system, so there was no real freshness to the offense (ala getting a guy that has a different background or multiple stops to incorporate new ideas).

to be fair, when you have this, do you need freshness?

I think it's a smart play for Lashlee. He's been in Gus' shadow for so long, few P5 teams would consider him as a coordinator, so his choices are to take a step or two back and establish himself in a different setting or either go down with the ship with Gus or be thrown under the bus by Gus as the heat gets turned up.

If This Were Alabama, I would be opposed to any briles

Re: Plain Trouble on "Da Plains" (all AU posts here)

Can't see Auburn hiring Art Briles - like it or don't, he's toxic right now.

Kendal Briles, OTOH...

Nope. I don't care how well he and Gus know each other. Some Auburn fans have an unhealthy obsession with getting him. The majority of us know that hiring him will result in a PR fiasco that will make the Cam situation look like child's play.

Excellent analysis. Assuming he would have stayed on at AU, his success (or lack of success either rightly so or not) is sort of tied to Gus. Even if this wasn't his decision, it may be the best for his career. My guess is Edsal wants to get off to a good start rebooting his career at UConn, so he must have faith in Lashlee as a play caller.

Re: Plain Trouble on "Da Plains" (all AU posts here)

It happened.

He won't do it because he doesn't have it in him, but Greg Sankey should write a nice letter to Jay Jacobs saying the action of their fans by doing it is pathetic and just cost Auburn their share of Alabama's bowl revenue from the conference.

I didn't cheer for or against Auburn in 2010 and 2013. I wouldn't ask Auburn fans to cheer for us because of conference pride, but they sure don't have to celebrate the loss while receiving a nice payday because of our success.

I did cheer for them unabashedly in 2013. I cheered for them in the Sugar Bowl this year as well. I will admit that I wasn't cheering for them against Oregon, due to the Cam shenanigans, but I certainly wasn't upset that they won the NC.

It's just a different worldview (college football worldview). And it proves the little brother syndrome is alive and well. It means more to a good number of them to see us fail than it does to have their own team succeed.

Now, I will admit there are a baffling few of Alabama fans that are the same way in their obsession with Auburn.

I do wonder just how someone in the position of Jay Jacobs reacted though. David Housel would have been leading the toilet paper brigade.

Brett McMurphy just stated that Art Briles will not be considered for the AU OC job..

Re: Plain Trouble on "Da Plains" (all AU posts here)

Lashley was the scapegoat for gus and jay jacobs. The only bad thing for them is the offense got better without gus calling the plays.

Re: Plain Trouble on "Da Plains" (all AU posts here)

Ridiculous is more like it. SMH

We run it at least once a season since '09 and it works more than half the time. USCe caught it in the 2010 SECCG, OK this year. Can't remember any besides those off hand but I know it's been stuffed at least once more.

Edit: I remember Gus scorching us with it during his time at Arky. Hid Reggie Fish back there back in 2006. Very good Auburn defense. That game sucked. Long quiet drive afterwards.
