Game Thread: OFFICIAL POST-GAME THREAD - Bama vs. Barn...

The difference in this game was that Auburn was committed to running the tailback even if it was not always effective and it setup things in their offense while Alabama abandoned the tailback run for large stretches of this game for no reason at all.

OL was in a garbage position all night. Plus run blocking unit asked to block one of the best DLs for deep drop throws...

Like many others, I find it hard to understand how we only score 14 with all the offensive talent. We need a short and intermediate passing game especially when you are having problems with pass rush.

The critical play of the bama had 3rd down in the 3rd quarter after we had gone ahead. Jalen throws to Bo in the flat. He doesn't cut inside and avoid the defender. We end up short and punt. If he cuts inside he scores, there was no one home on that side of the field. Ther were plenty of other plays, but that is the one that stuck out to me.
We simply didn't play like the best team tonight. Auburn finally beat us without a miracle or trick play.

You had 206 yards rushing, gaining 5.6 yards per carry. The offensive game plan was inexcusably bad.

I guess my big concern is that there isn't anything in the playbook of that nature and it will be the same on New Years.

I read in too many places that the key on offense was quick passes and getting outside on Auburn. The few times they did these things, it mostly worked.

Auburn played a great game and K Johnson was a beast. It's easy to say, but I think with Tua in we would have had a better chance in our "2 minute" offense.

This. Down 12 with under five minutes and Jalen struggling in the passing game, I felt you had to give Tua a look. As much as I despise Danielson, (was listening to Eli and Phil Savage as well. Phil was making the same comment) Jalen wasn’t making quick reads and being decisive. At that point, there was little to lose.

As much as love Jalen, it was evident we needed better execution in the passing game and he didn’t have it tonight.

As much as we want to win the championships every year, there are some years that you can't just reload. We have the best coach in the game but our early NFL enrollees and injuries caught up to us this year imo. We're still alive for the playoffs although it is a longshot but we are 11-1 and I'm proud of this team. I'm not trying to make excuses and we did not play Bama ball tonight but how many college programs would like to be us tonight? The sun will come up tomorrow, Roll Tide!

Auburn was not going to let us beat them in the air to Ridley. If we had thrown deep perfectly to Ridley 10 more times, they would have sacrificed a PI 15 yard penalty each time. It was part of their game plan, and it was the smart thing to do.

The TD completion to Jeudy was beautiful.

Yea Shank was tweeting bout them doing it.

Or different passes.

A lot of us have been pointing out what seems to work when a team plays defense like Auburn did, and it's not slow developing pass plays. You might have a point in that if Daboll refuses to adjust at all to what the other team is doing, Tua might be a better fit. But that begs the question of why on earth you don't just adjust?

Yes. All year long I've been wondering when we would open up that part of the playbook. I thought we were saving it for LSU, then I thought we'd see it against Auburn. But we were vanilla all game. Apparently that's all we have in the playbook.

Even more fundamentally, we are a team that needs to run to set up the pass, but other than the first drive of the second half we didn't play that way. I thought we were going to turn the game into a blowout after that first drive, but we went back to the same ineffective play selection after that first possession.

Easy to second guess when we lose, but putting up only 14 against Auburn and losing by two scores with the talent that we have is hard to understand.

Awesome post. Expresses my thoughts exactly. Anyone getting overly angry or depressed over a single loss to an 11-1 Alabama team, probable needs to step back from football and gain some perspective.

Worst coached Bama team tonight I’ve seen in a long time. All of the folks who have been so quick to dismiss the ones who have pushed for Tua to possibly get a chance to be the man may need to rethink their position. Do you think the team would have been better off if they would have went with the much better passer at the first of the year? I don’t think Hurts has released a pass at the top of his drop all year. And every time they show the wide view, at least one receiver is open enough to throw the ball. But he either can’t see it or he’s not confident enough to deliver the ball. And so you’re left with a very limited offense, one which is not good enough to keep up with a team playing like Auburn. All of this skill talent we have is being wasted because of who the quarterback is. Put the one in who can see the field and spread the ball around!
