Politics: The Trump Impeachment Thread

Don't you just love how every single time these anonymous people who are telling Trump how persecuted he is talk to him, they ALWAYS - without fail - address him as "sir"?

Copernicus called Trump this morning and said, "Despite opinion to the contrary, you are NOT the center of the universe." (Yes, I stole it from Frasier Crane, but it's still funny).

ill see if i can find it, but some columnist had a piece on this a few weeks back. he said it is a sure tell that what follows is fabricated bs

eta: here is the article 'Sir' alert: This one word is a telltale sign Trump is being dishonest

I've fact-checked every word Trump has uttered since his inauguration. I can tell you that if this President relays an anecdote in which he has someone referring to him as "sir," then some major component of the anecdote is very likely to be wrong.
Lots of people do call Trump "sir," of course. But the word seems to pop into his head more frequently when he is inventing or exaggerating a conversation than when he is faithfully relaying one. A "sir" is a flashing red light that he is speaking from his imagination rather than his memory.
In poker parlance, it's a tell.

If he were somehow removed from office, would there be anything preventing him from being on the ballot next year?

The Senate's rules on impeachment trials states that they have the power to prevent the removed individual from running again...

On the face of it I couldn't see how Repubs would ever be able to spin this. It's right there in black and white. Trump used money assigned by congress for Ukraine military aid to pressure a foreign leader to dig up dirt on a political opponent in the upcoming election. "You can't spin that" I thought.

Oh well.......

You must be new around here......

not that detail, context or facts matter in 2019 but you should know that this the prosecutor was fired a year after the investigation and that he was fired because he was corrupt and not investigating honestly. The firing actually made it more likely, not less that anything Burisma or Hunter Biden may have done would be investigated properly.

I don't think facts like those you cited make any difference with the true believers.

what do you mean. they are totally not trump supporters. it's just that they have no choice but to support him since their burning question, whaddabout chappaquiddick, continues to get rudely ignored.

I was talking to a friend that considers himself conservative, and voted for Trump. But he insists he doesn't support him. So I asked him, short of sending him money, could you have done anything more supportive than voting for him? Face it, until you are ready to vote against him, you are supporting him.

His response was to start sputtering about Hillary.

did he talk about how he totally doesn't expect him to get a second term, so he's off the hook?

I am pretty sure impeachment will be a big waste of time. Senate Republicans would kowtow to 45 if he murdered someone in cold blood on Madison Avenue. They have no morals, no soul, no real agenda other than to stay in power and support whatever Republicans want(which is usually what big corporations and hedge fund managers want).

I know that impeachment is part of the Constitutional process, but can someone convince me why it would amount to a hill of beans?

There are no Republicans like Howard Baker or Barry Goldwater this time around. Nobody will stand up to him.

Oh sure he did.

He also hoped the Dems won't nominate another bad candidate and FORCE him to vote for Trump again.

His next topic was describing all the operations he has in front of him. I reminded him that he is fortunate to have good health insurance, and by the way, I reminded him he voted to strip twenty something million fellow Americans of their ACA insurance. I told him we had been close friends since childhood, and there was no way I could be tricked into voting to strip him of his insurance.

And as he had reminded me he's very devout these days, I explained my Christian faith prevented me from voting to take insurance from the least among us.

In trying to cover up the action of moving the Zelensky conversation to a 'code only' server, the WH claims today that the NSC directed them to file the item "appropriately". What this brings to mind is two possible explanations: (A) The NSC has to routinely direct the WH to file classified stuff 'appropriately', or they won't. or (B) the NSC knows that filing politically damaging stuff in a "code only' file is inappropriate, but did't have the cojones to tell the WH not to do it.

Of course a third possibility is possible (perhaps probable): the whole claim by the WH is obfuscation or outright lies....
