Question:
Is Houston better equipped to do Tua's surgery than St. Vincents?
If the surgeon in TX is better than Dr. Andrews and his Wonder Team, Why haven't I heard of it?
I admit I'm out of touch, but I've been to St. Vincents on several occasions and saw everyday folks like Hulk Hogan, the King O Jordan And pictures of so many top athletes,
I got the impression that there was no one better.

My firsthand information is years out of date now, now we are in the age of Robotics ect...

Wow! Dilaudid and morphine are closely related. Vallium is a benzodiazapine and I'm genetically a rapid metabolizer of that class of drugs. They don't have much effect on me...

Well, I'm just going to thank the good Lord that I haven't had any situations, (yet, and knock on wood), that would require me to learn all of the drug names and how I metabolize them. Torodol does work great on me for kidney stone pain though. Knocks it right out.

In reading more around this, there are orthopedic surgeons that specialize in one or two joints. For instance, the Rockets/Texans team orthopedist only does knees and shoulders.

Actually, they do acetabular fractures all the time at Andrews. It's a common fracture in auto accidents, almost guaranteed, if you're not wearing a seat belt. Such fractures form a spectrum, from a simple crack, like mine, to parts of the acetabulum being broken off and displaced. Basically, anyone who can perform a hip replacement can repair one. In that surgery, which I've had done, they cut away enough of the acetabulum to allow the new socket to be fixed and then saw off the head of the trocantor and place the new stem and ball. The GaTech team surgeon did mine. However, in addition to the bony damage, there's the associated damage to the soft tissue, the labrum, articular cartilage, etc. That was the reason for my first post above when I found out that they were transferring him. I knew that it wasn't a simple fracture, or it would have been done at Andrews. As I said above, this is not reassuring news...

I'm going with the positive take here...Kids around the country are seeing what lengths we go to to protect and take care of our own in Tuscaloosa.
While this has a bad look from the outside (the actual injury), step back a bit and see that it shows how much we care about the athletes...and THE PEOPLE that we bring in...

Alabama has been very good about this for a long time. Remember several years ago when it seemed like everyone was getting sports hernias and we were flying guys up to Philadelphia (I think) to have them repaired? Even before Dr. Cain and Andrews group came on board as "official" team physicians, they were being used...I can't remember a shoulder that Dr. Fowler operated on during my time there, they all went to andrews

Just heard on tv that Tua also had a broken nose and concussion. The hospital is Memorial Hermann in Houston but not sure of the Dr. Someone said it was Dr. Routt on another site though.

I have not heard anything. My sister-in-law works at Childrens, so no help there.

On the Dr. Routt mentioned, his specialties are listed as Trauma, Pelvic and Acetabulum (hip socket) Fractures, and he does work out of Memorial Hermann.
