UBI test run checks with the presidents name on them are a hell of a drug. I’m glad to see that people are seeming to get enough real information to hold him accountable. However he is the face people remember as the federal government is literally sending Americans money in an election year.

Any polls about dissatisfaction with his COVID response are way too early to find any meaning. Fox News is already hammering home multiple narratives. China is to blame. No one could have known this was so bad. This isn’t as bad as they said, it’s way under 100k so give trump all the credit. These narratives then make the non stupid channels spend time debunking them, which ends up sticking those ear worms into the heads of people who don’t watch Fox News.

America is fighting two viruses. COVID is terrible, but republican gaslighting, obstructionism and projection is a virus that America has been dealing with for the past 20 years. We still haven’t seen a vaccine for it yet and more and more Americans are catching it.

I agree, but the early ones are starting to turn sour for him. His reaction is the presser today, with the graphs proving him the greatest, etc...

I’m going to be a negative Nancy about anything that shows Biden with a cakewalk until this clown’s big rear end is removed from the Oval Office. Preferably with a crowbar, and in handcuffs.

I still think a big reason he won in 2016 was voter complacency. Too many thought Hillary had it in the bad and decided to stay home.

Biden’s chances pretty much hinge on his VP pick. I really think at this point he has topped out the support he can gain on his own merits and really it hinges on Sanders and his VP.

Scanning the reaction to yesterday's press briefing it occurred to me that having such an ineffective tyrant wannabe President will have the reverse reaction of the states increasing their efforts to resist federal over reach in a number of areas.

From this mornings LA Times
Trump’s Coronavirus Blame Game
Repeatedly declaring that his authority over states is “total,” President Trump let loose a tirade of grievances and accusations Monday, even as governors on the West and East Coasts made clear they weren’t following the White House’s cues and began making plans to ease coronavirus restrictions on a regional basis.

After a weekend fuming and tweeting about what he saw as negative news coverage, Trump staged one of the strangest yet of his almost daily White House briefings. It included a White House-produced campaign-style reel of selectively edited video clips of officials effusively praising his efforts. Trump laced his comments with inaccurate claims, insisting that “nobody” had asked for ventilators, although numerous governors had repeatedly requested them in the month since he declared a national emergency.

He also called Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top expert on infectious diseases, to the lectern to walk back his comment on a Sunday TV talk show that earlier U.S. efforts to fight the coronavirus “could have saved lives.”

Trump insisted that he, not governors and mayors, will decide when to “open up the states,” a claim at odds with reality but in line with his effort to claim credit for positive developments while blaming others — the media, China, the World Health Organization, former President Obama, Democrats, among many others — for problems.

Asked during the briefing which provisions would authorize him to override local officials, Trump was vague. “Numerous provisions,” he said. “We’ll give you a legal brief if you want.”

“When somebody is the president of the United States, the authority is total,” he said. When another reporter asked him why he believed that to be true, he quickly shushed her: “Enough!”

Cut to the chase...

Ultimately, Mr. Biden will make a pick based on comfort, fit and fitness for the office, and there is no shortage of talented women he can choose. If he wants to base his decision on the available evidence and proven success in areas where he has failed, then choosing Stacey Abrams is the smartest move. [QUOTE/]

No doubt about it. It's started with the Democratic governors but it'll spread to Republicans as well. No one wants to give up power...

This seems appropriate considering the discussion today.

At the very least, America must stop financing health care through employer-based insurance, which encourages some people to work but it eliminates jobs for less-skilled workers. Employer-based health care is a particular nightmare in this pandemic. In recent weeks, millions have lost their paychecks and their insurance, and will have to face the virus without either.
We are believers in free-market capitalism, but health care is not something it can deliver in a socially tolerable way.

The emphasis is mine.

Another good OpEd from the NYT. This one is by Amy Klobuchar.

In Milwaukee, which has the largest minority population in the state, the number of open polling places was shrunk to five from 180, as poll workers dropped out. In Green Bay, the number plunged to two from 31. Needless to say, the lines were hours long. Voters wore homemade face masks to protect themselves from contracting the coronavirus — if they were willing to risk voting at all.
And if you think there ought to be a better way, you’re not alone. I know of one person who, with an election approaching in his newly adopted state, simply requested an absentee ballot from the comfort of his own home — so he could vote safely and easily by mail.
His name? Donald Trump. His address? 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. If it’s good enough for him, it’s good enough for all Americans.

Here we go - they're going after Biden now. In this non-story they even admit that none of the women considered it sexual: "all of the women have said Biden’s unwanted behavior wasn’t sexual but made them uncomfortable."

Seven women have now accused Joe Biden of inappropriate touching

This falls miles short of Trump's recorded trash about grabbing women by the genitalia, yet they're going after Biden...

Really good article in the WSJ "Review" section Saturday: "A World of Hardening Borders." Historical analysis of the closing of the borders @ WWII and then the opening of them until 2008 -- reasons for Trump and Boris Johnson's elections. Too much to summarize, but really insightful. Also laments our lack of international leadership presence with Trump -- notes China trying to take advantage. A lot of food for thought...
