Ah, Florida - words fail me.

This is a C&P from a present teacher in FL, which she shared on the page of an old friend of mine who is a retired FL teacher, now living in California. I couldn't copy the list of banned publications, but it included the like of "Bicycling," "Bon Appetit," and "The Greatest Golf."

I don't know if this is a M4L thing or just a Desantis/facism in Florida thing, but I'm a Palm Beach County teacher. My blood pressure is skyrocketing as I write this.
Our county sent a list of banned materials for the classroom including Time, Smithsonian, The Atlantic, and even Duolingo! We are waiting to "vet" Shakespeare's Twelfth Night and Strunk and White's "Elements of Style" (the grammar and writing go to guide for decades).
Sometimes I feel like this job is literally going to kill me. The stress, anxiety, and lack of respect is soul crushing.
I don't even know what to say or do, but I needed to vent and share with a group who might listen...
😔

It's not censorship - it's protecting children!

Uniforms complete with masks. I hope they suffocated in the heat.

How is it even possible these days that people would worship Hitler? Did they not go to school? Do they not know about the Holocaust? Do they think Hitler was a nice guy because he was a racist?

It's hard to imagine.

I agree. Not defending bigots, but there have always been people who hated other groups of people. That’s diminished as we’ve become more civilized but it will always be there.

But worshiping Hitler? Even if you don’t like Jews, you are a special kind of nutjob if you think killing six million of them is something to be admired.

I also think Stalin was a Level One psychopath, for those think hating Hitler=loving Stalin.

I'm haunted by the words of my next door German neighbor, back in the early '70s, when I tried to convince her "it" couldn't happen here. She insisted it could. She passed a few years ago at 95, while Trump was in office. The similarities disturbed her. Remember that Hitler was, at first, elected...

How many guys does it take to wrangle Florida's second-heaviest Burmese python? Five, apparently. Mike Elfenbein was one of those guys who experienced a "surreal" and "lucky" take-down at Big Cypress National Preserve in South Florida over the weekend. Elfenbein, his son Cole and three other guys they had just met were in the area just lookin' for pythons. The species of python they caught are not native to Florida and are considered invasive due to their impacts to native wildlife, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

Gov. Ron DeSantis would have the authority to remove and fine any elected official involved in the taking down of Confederate and other historical memorials in the state under a bill filed for the next legislative session.

Awwwwwww...................Mama Tiger is so careful around her little babies.........

Endangered Malayan Tiger Cubs Snuggle Up to Mom After Birth at Florida Zoo Florida’s Jacksonville Zoo announced three critically endangered Malayan tiger cubs were born on Sunday, November 5, releasing footage of the mother and new cubs on social media. This footage shows Cinta and her newborn cubs. “The few days after birth are critical as the little family adjusts,” the zoo wrote on Facebook. “Cinta has been very attentive to her babies, grooming and allowing the cubs to nurse, so we are giving them space while they get settled in and bond privately behind the scenes. Our Animal Care staff continue to monitor them to ensure they are eating, sleeping, and cuddling as they should.” Malayan tigers are critically endangered, according to the zoo, who said an estimated 150 Malayan tigers remain in the wild. That’s awesome, Bazza! Will you get to see the cubs?

It's been a while since I visited the Jax Zoo. It's on the north side of the city, and I live half way between Jax and St. Augustine. It's a nice zoo; they've done a good job at creating natural settings for the animals. I'm going to check to see when the cubs will be available to be seen by the public. It will soon be time to take the family for another visit.

"Inside of the backpack was a bag of Expert Grill brand charcoal briquets," the affidavit reads. "Inside the bag of charcoal briquets was approximately 14 pounds of a grey granular material and two clear plastic containers containing approximately a half-pound each of a similar gray granular substance.

"One of the containers had a partial bright orange label on it stating, 'rifle targets.' The remainder of the labels had been removed. This packaging ... is consistent with exploding targets."
While examining the scene, officers found three shell casings, bullet fragmentations and impact marks along the wall where the backpack was located.

"The presence of shell casings ... and bullet fragmentations near the wall indicates that one or more subjects attempted to detonate the explosives by shooting at the backpack from in or around that location," the affidavit reads.

What an idiot
