1. Milroe was #1 QB inspite of performance, although Saban wouldnt announce it pre season
2. Milroe was benched for performance
3. Milroe was either suspended or demoted to QB3 due to behavior due to being benched
4. There was a team meeting
5. Now Milroe is now QB1 inspite of performance...

IF you dont think anything REEKS with all the above, and if your not willing to read b/t the lines of all:

1. Former players saying you better listen to Saban
2. Multiple media reports about lack of effort
3. Multiple players speaking out on togtherness.
4. Multiple reports that Milroe "won the team" inspite of performance

Then I cant help you.

This team has major issues, and issues that obviously Saban hasnt been able to fix so far. I personally have heard a good bit, again i knew the Milroe issue and posted it the day before on the board that he wouldnt be the second QB in... I wont say what I've been told happen...

This is something I thought Id NEVER see Saban do. Therefore I've said what I've said. This is the the moment: either this works, or this blows up.. and I'm not talking this year only.. I'm talking the CNS future..... The culture is cracking in a big way, this is an attempt to glue it back together. Thats why there is the fuss from former players.

Unfortunately-- I dont see it working out well. Might win 8-9 games. But this isnt going to be something corrected over night. Even if it can be glued back together, it likely wont stay glued together long.

Not suggesting it's only Bama. But these tendencies are at the root of what seems to be happening.

NIL is a problem for every school, but it'll hit the blue bloods the hardest in terms of how it levels the playing field.

"Tolerance" = "everybody is right/authority is neutered"

We also no longer teach submission to authority. Frankly, that's something we started tearing down in the 1960s.

It's not. Not by a long shot. It's glaring to us here because we are fans of this team. Every game I've watched I can see it. I mentioned this in another thread but the quality of play around the country is atrocious this year. And it has been declining for several years now. The lack of respect for the opponent rears its head more and more.

In many ways it is subtle. As time goes on, it will become less and less so.

I feel for Coach Saban. He is in an incredibly tough spot right now.

No, seriously, this is problem #1 to fix. Milroe, Buckner and Simpson all struggle to catch his "fastball snap," even when it's accurate and hitting them in the hands!

It throws the whole timing of the offense off when they have to pause to catch the snap no matter if it's a run, RPO or a quick hitting pass.

Until it's fixed, out offense is a step behind the defense on every play, literally!

If this is true and CNS caved to what the team wants then he should retire. If he is going to continue to preach accountability then he should start with himself.

I did happen to notice how hard and fast the snaps were Saturday. Noticed Ty having to catch it twice a few times the snap was so hot. The QB should go up and slap the center on the butt a few times and get his attention about it. Pull a AJ on national tv. Lol

One thing I've become certain of over the last 24 hours.

As a fan base, we are not going to handle Coach Saban's eventual retirement and replacement well.

At all.

I was around when Coach Bryant had his first decline from 67-70 and there were billboards from Bama fans declaring that "the old gray Bear ain't what he used to be", wanting him gone. There were many who wanted him gone. Then of course from 81-82 it happened again. As usual, the female fans were the best "true fans", who almost always "support the team, the coach, the players". Their expression was, "thank you Coach for 25 great years". They helped put the focus in the right place, not on the dysfunction that characterized the end of his run.

This, of course, was before the current media environment. If fringe Bama fans do it again, if and when Coach Saban's run declines, the ugly exposure (including running with rumor and innuendo rather than waiting for substance) will be far worse and observed with greater delight by Alabama's legion of enemies. They will likely be rewarded with what they deserve - a program that will have a hard time finding a good coach to enter a toxic environment. (It's going to be tough enough as it is.)

The debt Alabama fans owe Coach Saban is incalculable and can never be repaid in full. Part of what can be paid is patience and understanding, giving the benefit of the doubt, etc. during any tough times.

I don't know what the issues are but have read things on message boards. I know you can't say supposedly happened, but did it only start to happen when Rees/Buchner came, or was this something happening last season but due to Bryce/Will's leadership, maybe we didn't hear. much about it?

I sure hope the players and/or parents are not threatening things or whatever. Is it a team issue or just a few on the team who are "energy vampires"? If it is just a handful, I say kick them off the team regardless of who they are. Coach Saban somehow needs to keep the Bama standard/culture in place. If the players won''t listen to him, I wonder which coach on staff they would listen to? And apparently the players didn't listen to any of the guest speakers over fall camp about life things.

I'm sure NIL and transfer portal have something to do with it, but every team is dealing with that and not every team has internal issues, or do they? Saban is the GOAT and I'm sure he is doing all he can to fix things. Hopefully this won't hurt the program's culture or recruiting. He would never say it in public, but I imagine he is very stressed. I was stressed and sad just reading your post and other posts from various message boards, and I don't even know exactly what happened.

I've tried to be responsible and credible and when I have something to say I remember the principle "it's not what you say but how you say it."

My opinion on this matter is based on three things: 1. The eye test (which you might call inference) 2. Facts (things that have happened this season on the field, what happened yesterday. 3. Some discussions with people who know people and discussions with friends (one who is a Mod here).

So, I've hinted at my suspicion the players didn't exactly play with all their heart for either Buchner or Simpson. That's based on all three of the things listed above.

1. What I saw was one of the worst defensive teams in college football looking like the 85 Bears. I watched half-butt efforts to block their OL. I watched OL not help up their QB who just got sacked because they just got beat. I watched our starting RB whiff on a block that got Simpson hit in the back that looked like he should be on the scout team (it's interesting he didn't play much after that and Roydell was the featured back down the stretch). Now, will the team, the LT or RB ever come out and say "Yeah, we decided we'd not play with 100% effort because we didn't want Buchner/Simpson to be the QB?" Of course not...at least not for a long time, but how else do we explain what we saw???

2. The "facts" of what happened or came to light yesterday are mind-numbing. It was revealed yesterday that Jalen was punished for a bad attitude (that's why he sat out of the game), there was a team meeting (about unity), and there was a PC in which CNS announced the player he punished is now the starter. Not only is this the first time I can ever remember CNS tipping his hat to another coach on what he's planning to do on a Monday, but a day after the players had a unity meeting he reinstates what appeared (before these things happened) to be the #3 QB!?!?. These matters, as far we know, happened; they are facts. How do we just ignore them and act as if this is normal for a Bama and CNS team?

3. Finally, people who know people who hear things who have a record of being right have indicated something was amiss Saturday. I won't repeat the exact words I was told, but they believe there was an intentional, apathetic effort giving by some of the players. Add to that there are media people like Ryan Fowler and Josh Pater (who have good reputations) who raised questions about these matters. And a friend that I trust that I talk Bama football with regularly, believes something is off too.

You don't have to agree. It'll never be "confirmed." But since you seem to be asking why I feel how I feel, thems the reasons.

If our left tackle doesn't improve Milro may not last long. I find it hard to believe that 7 other scholarship lineman can actually wave at outside rushers more effectively on their way to centering our QB in the back. If that is the case then what method are we using to evaluate these guys.

One thing that has caught my attention is that JC Latham didn't move over to LT this year. I know this isn't an absolute but in years past we tend to break in a young offensive tackle at RT, and then move them over to LT after a year or two of playing experience. Considering our struggles at LT, I'm a bit surprised that Latham hasn't moved over.

Again, no one knows for sure what is going on. Anyone who suggests that Saban has changed his stripes from holding players accountable to coddling them is mistaken IMHO. I know this isn't an absolute but in years past we tend to break in a young offensive tackle at RT, and then move them over to LT after a year or two of playing experience. Considering our struggles at LT, I'm a bit surprised that Latham hasn't moved over.

This alone should tell you the state of the offensive line, the challenges the coaches are dealing with and the root of the struggles this team is experiencing with offensive execution and consistency.

And then he was going to be a NC NIL "pioneer" and return to his original commitment until Mack Brown cried it would be like Colt gettin' hurt twice as bad with Saban showing up at takeout window. I dont have the answers to that.

I do think winning covers up a lot of issues. I do think having clear cut Alpha's help both in terms of playing ability and leadership.

I mean lets face it. We've got some alpha's on the defensive side of things. We've got plenty of guys that either are 1st round guys or will be 1st/2nd round guys. Guys that will no doubt be paid to play in the NFL. We probably dont have a 1st or 2nd round draft pick on the offensive side of things. We've got a guy that'll never play in the NFL as our QB1. A new coordinator. A lot has changed on that side of the ball.. and its my guess that instead of buying into the bama way of doing things, they are all fighting for their own piece of the pie.

We are clearly on the back end of an unprecedented run in college football.

It was/is my hope that Saban rides out a year too early rather than a year too late. I think Sark was here to be that guy. I personally think that wouldve been a great transition.

But Saban is the GOAT. He'll go out on his own terms. I just hate to see him riding out with 8-9 win teams that are a fraction of what the teams he had during the run were.
