Yea from a passing standpoint what he throw was good 123.7 passer rating with coming off the bench is not bad. From a qbr stand point he took too many sacks. That would improve with time tho if he didn’t get killed behind that oline first.
He was put into an impossible situation.

When he came into the game we were one mistake away from LOSING THE GAME.

Perhaps his hesitancy, which led to some of those sacks, was there wasn't a player open OR it was a tight window and he knew the last thing we could afford is an INT or Pix 6.

His job, at that point was to not lose the game and somehow allow the "talent" to overcome and win it.

It was pretty amazing that when he had a clean pocket and open receiver to Dippre that he pulled the trigger quickly, effortlessly and hit him in perfect stride. It just makes you wonder what he could do with a clean pocket and receivers running open (coupled with a good play action and run game to assist)?

I think playing man with single high safety coverage is what Jalen would like to see most and be best for his game. Again, I don't understand defensive concepts schematics well enough, but it would just we could scheme that better with deep shots than zone with 2 deep safeties cause by the time JM reads the deep ball is not there he's got to come back to a 2nd or 3rd read underneath and we've seen how he struggles with that.
if they go two deep, playing cover 2, i'm running Mills all day. if they go cover three, I'm running smash routes all day. those are the two most basic route tree combos that you can get. if he can not read those two... I don't know what to say.

Yeah, I'm just spitballing. It would probably make the most sense like someone said to show man and then back up into zone at he snap and trick him to try to go deep.

What I fear the most is JM trying to throw short, to mid range routes for 1st downs on 3rd and long.

We stay ahead of the chains, we'll be OK. Get into 3rd and long and they'll disguise coverages and we are toast.

I don't know anything about playing qb, or teaching how to play qb, or calling plays but... If I were OC I'd have a check down for every pass. I'd tell him to read the primary and if that wasn't open to hit the check down. If the check down isn't open he needs to make like Forrest Gump and run.

Any other time 3rd & long against Golding would be money…

i dont know how we got to avalos .. mayb injuries

now we r in this mess even wo injuries
That was 2003, and then the next year, again Pennington and Brodie were both injured and we had to go with Marc Guillon. He was better than Avalos, but that sure wasn't saying much at all

I just watched highlights of the Avalos game. I didn't see any passes just skipping around to the best parts lol. I do fondly remember Shuad Williams and the one play that sticks in my mind from his time was "Smoke Draw". But, same score against USM winning 17-3 and we were probably happier about that win back in 2003 than the win vs USF.

I was at the game. It was a fun day, despite all the problems.
