Thoughts on QB situation after Game 5?

When I stop yelling at my TV "THROW THE BALL AWAY!", I will feel better about the QB siuation.
YES, YES, YES!
I'm starting to think Milroe and many other college and NFL quarterbacks are more worried about their stats and not about costing their team yards.

Well here is the problem. There are two huge crowds. One in which overplays bad plays and one that overplays good ones. I mean we seriously had a “Milroe compared to Vince Young” thread after the MTSU game…

Milroe is more closer to a functional quarterback that can win some games with his talen rather than one that should be keeping defensive coordinators up all night around the country. I just can’t get past the fact that we struggled putting up 24 points at home vs Pete Golding’s worst defense, but everyone wants to throw qbr and completion rate vs a less impressive msu defense.

Idk… I think we are going to see our ceiling with Milroe this Saturday. Whether that is a NC or major bowl we will have a far better idea by 6 pm Saturday. Hope it’s the former.

Well I was going to start a “Milroe reminds me of Michael Vick” thread on Saturday night but Rod Gilmore stole my thunder.

We'll find out Saturday if Saban made the right choice. If Milroe does well and we win then it will certainly look correct but if Milroe gets rattled and turns the ball over a couple of times then Saban may have no choice but to give Simpson a crack on the big stage. Then we'll know if Simpson can handle pressure or if he is a worse choice.

The best take I've heard all year on the QB situation was from Rodney Orr (TI) on Gary Harris' show this past Monday. I encourage everyone to go to the Tide 100.9 website and listen to the podcast.

I imagine Milroe would do really well as QB at a Group of 5 school, but I'm sure that's probably not a popular opinion here. Simpson, no idea where he will go, but I don't expect him to stay either.
I imagine he would probably do really well at UCF. I'm sure Gus Malzahn is sitting somewhere in a corner salivating over him, but he's not the best fit for what we want to do

I think there is a good chance Simpson gets his big opportunity this weekend. TAMU‘s defense is #1 in getting sacks this year and Bama is second worst in sacks allowed. Milroe is gonna get hit. A lot. And the more hits you take the greater the chance you take one that you do not get up from.

I think if Simpson plays we are in trouble.

i hope that scenario doesnt play out.. simpson has no pocket presence either so it would turn to ugly loss

If we lose DL-OL matchup for our offense .. it going be be ugly no matter what our defense does

and we havent seen our OC scheme with our OL weakness in mind

I really hope that is not how it plays out. I’m not sold on Milroe, but there is a reason changing QBs mid game doesn’t usually work out, and a lot of it has to do with preparation. Add to that a defense racking up sacks and hurries so much that the other QB had to leave the game, in an extremely hostile stadium, and Simpson would definitely not be set up for success. The Tua-Hurts swap in 2017 and then 2018 was the rare exception, not the norm.

It’s not even Friday yet and this has seemed like the longest week ever before games! I’m just ready to see how we do on Saturday. Not sure which lucky shirt I need to wear to help out the offense…

I'm with you on the Luky Shirt. I have a Lucky Hat too.

When Saban was asked about Milroe being injured, he did not answer. He deflected. That has me a bit concerned.
Lots of rumors about tweaking a hamstring..Then I read posts on other boards that shoot it down. Wondering if might be one of those “banged and bruised” type things that happened Saturday night, then it really didn’t much better through the week?

When Milroe had that long TD run, he got clipped at the end by a diving player. I wonder if that plays into anything with his hamstring possibly. If its even true....but as B1G said, Saban deflected when questioned.

I agree. He did deflect. But, photos from practice show him looking normal and not even wearing a brace on his hamstring. Also, all the "sources" that are reputable that I have seen/read about have said the rumor isn't true. Hopefully, he is fine. I know he has his faults, but Milroe is the best we have for the game. Simpson against their D line would get ugly.

I may be wrong, but I honestly believe Simpson, Buchner, and possibly Holstein enter the transfer portal after the season. Not sure about Milroe, that would leave us with Lonergan
and Sayin. assuming he does not decommit. We won't know about possible transfer QBs who might be interested in Alabama until the same time. This is a serious problem.

I agree because it'll mean we are already in a big hole (unless Milroe is injured and Simpson if forced to play). But also simply because we've done NOTHING to get Simpson ready as #2.
You beat me to it BM. If Simpson plays it will probably be because we're already in trouble. If that's the case, he'll go in cold, not having any 1st team reps and if he does not play well & and a lot of people will say "See. He can't handle it."

Yep, this is not the game to throw Simpson out there unprepared. That time has passed now. Hope Milroe doesn't get hurt.....also hope he miraculously fixed his mechanics and his habit of hitting the panic button too quick and his habit of holding onto the ball taking a sack and his habit of not seeing open receivers.....ok, I'm stopping.

Hope the boys come out with a chip on their shoulder and blow the doors off Kyle Field, just haven't seen that type of play in a couple years, so it would be a nice surprise.
