"It certainly does suck..."
"As you can see, it sucks as it cuts"
An astute ( and accurate ) observation. It’s hard enough to focus an 18-22 year old male mind when he isn’t making any money. When he’s making more than his position coach, it’s nigh on impossible.
You know what, I'm just gonna say it. Good for Jimbo, seriously. If an entity is stupid enough to pay me $23k PER DAY NOT TO WORK, then I'm gonna take them up on it.I saw an article that says his "buyout" equals over 23K a day. A DAY!
I can see their argument though. If you're gonna pay a guy $75M not to coach, you'd hope his replacement is at least a name people know. No one has ever heard of this guy.
Yeah, agree. If I'm him I wouldn't take another job the rest of my life. I think 23K a day (on top of all the other millions he's made) would fund my food and travel plans as long as I wanted. You know what, I'm just gonna say it. Good for Jimbo, seriously. If an entity is stupid enough to pay me $23k PER DAY NOT TO WORK, then I'm gonna take them up on it.
It would be interesting to sit down with Lanning over an adult beverage, just the two of you, and see what his answer to the question, " Would you be interested in coaching at Alabama after CNS retires ? " would be.Lanning 100% shut it down in an interview the other day when asked about the 8&4 job. Unequivocally said 'not interested'.
If TAMU hires a guy who is "NOT" currently a hot name I'll be shocked.![]()
Source: UTSA's Jeff Traylor interviews for Texas A&M's head coaching job
UTSA's Jeff Traylor, who won three state titles as football coach at Gilmer High School, has interviewed for the Texas A&M job, an A&M source says.www.statesman.com
Assuming CNS leaves the cupboard full of talent, the next Miles or O could forge their name in history by winning a NC on talent alone. It would be interesting to sit down with Lanning over an adult beverage, just the two of you, and see what his answer to the question, " Would you be interested in coaching at Alabama after CNS retires ? " would be.
I know a much better UTSA coach they could have…
I agree on Kirby. He isn't going anywhere and is already at his last coaching job. Lanning would definitely be on my personal short list of candidates when Saban hangs it up.Kirby's not taking the job mark it down, I don't think it's Lanning either he wants the Bama job when it does come open some day, I believe it's Elko he is just a football coach that is what they need
Why spend that kind of money for a big name though when...If TAMU hires a guy who is "NOT" currently a hot name I'll be shocked.
They probably have CNS on their short list and they probably think he'd crawl naked over broken glass to get there.
Either of these guys could be right, nobody knows.
I agree as far as you've gone, and would add that what you outline doesn't include managing the boosters.Either of these guys could be right, nobody knows.
One thing I can guarantee you: the egos of the backups at A&M are ten times larger than the entire roster at UTSA.
People call CNS a CEO, and that was before NiL, the juggling of egos and payrolls at a major college football program are nothing like what this guy has faced at UTSA.
They aren't an elite program but there will always be the vibe that they're a sleeping giant. They are in a great recruiting state and have a lot of money. With those 2 things all you need is the right HC and you can win a championship there.I think JP is stretching. A&M has had "BAS" since joining the SEC. He's welcome to his opinion but he's ignoring the reality of the on field results of A&M history. Just because a school can throw around big money doesn't mean they are an elite program.
I didn't see anything else that made me think, "Wow, this would be a cool place to spend 4 years."

Well they do have some really good looking women![]()
Hadn't you heard? Miss Terry was seen in College Station looking at real estate and a private jet was tracked from to Tuscaloosa to College Station? If TAMU hires a guy who is "NOT" currently a hot name I'll be shocked.

I read last night where TAM tried to lock him up for 15 years guaranteed, but Jimbo and his agent would only go 10. They would be looking at 130m still guaranteed if they did that. Here is a good article on Jimbo I saw today on espn. I wasn't aware of some of the things happening and his attitude about certain things. Still can't believe he is getting that much money to not coach.
