You know what, I'm just gonna say it. Good for Jimbo, seriously. If an entity is stupid enough to pay me $23k PER DAY NOT TO WORK, then I'm gonna take them up on it.
Yeah, agree. If I'm him I wouldn't take another job the rest of my life. I think 23K a day (on top of all the other millions he's made) would fund my food and travel plans as long as I wanted.

Lanning 100% shut it down in an interview the other day when asked about the 8&4 job. Unequivocally said 'not interested'.
It would be interesting to sit down with Lanning over an adult beverage, just the two of you, and see what his answer to the question, " Would you be interested in coaching at Alabama after CNS retires ? " would be.

Assuming CNS leaves the cupboard full of talent, the next Miles or O could forge their name in history by winning a NC on talent alone.

Kirby's not taking the job mark it down, I don't think it's Lanning either he wants the Bama job when it does come open some day, I believe it's Elko he is just a football coach that is what they need
I agree on Kirby. He isn't going anywhere and is already at his last coaching job. Lanning would definitely be on my personal short list of candidates when Saban hangs it up.

But I'm curious....what have you heard that makes you think he actually wants the job?

If TAMU hires a guy who is "NOT" currently a hot name I'll be shocked.

They probably have CNS on their short list and they probably think he'd crawl naked over broken glass to get there.
Why spend that kind of money for a big name though when...

A&M sees what's coming and knows they are about to be little brother to Texas and Oklahoma again. They are forever a middle of the pack SEC team, just like they were in the Big12. Their chance to shine in the SEC has passed them by and they never even topped the divisions once.

Either of these guys could be right, nobody knows.

One thing I can guarantee you: the egos of the backups at A&M are ten times larger than the entire roster at UTSA.

People call CNS a CEO, and that was before NiL, the juggling of egos and payrolls at a major college football program are nothing like what this guy has faced at UTSA.

I agree as far as you've gone, and would add that what you outline doesn't include managing the boosters.

People simply don't cough up eight figures and expect nothing in return. At any school, they want access. At aTm (and UTw for that matter) they also want a say in the fundamental offensive and defensive philosophies and who is recruited from which high schools.

aTm is light years worse than UTSA on that front. In fact, I'd be surprised if UTSA had a 7-figure booster, let alone multiple 8-figure ones.

I truly believe that meddling boosters are aTm's core problem, and why they haven't been more successful despite having every tangible and financial advantage.

I think JP is stretching. A&M has had "BAS" since joining the SEC. He's welcome to his opinion but he's ignoring the reality of the on field results of A&M history. Just because a school can throw around big money doesn't mean they are an elite program.

They aren't an elite program but there will always be the vibe that they're a sleeping giant. They are in a great recruiting state and have a lot of money. With those 2 things all you need is the right HC and you can win a championship there.

Hadn't you heard? Miss Terry was seen in College Station looking at real estate and a private jet was tracked from to Tuscaloosa to College Station?

Here is a good article on Jimbo I saw today on espn. I wasn't aware of some of the things happening and his attitude about certain things. Still can't believe he is getting that much money to not coach.

jimbo-fisher-texas-firing-downfall
I read last night where TAM tried to lock him up for 15 years guaranteed, but Jimbo and his agent would only go 10. They would be looking at 130m still guaranteed if they did that.
