I don't like NIL either but how is this bad for non student athletes?
Didn't the NCAA used to ban "impermissible benefits" or something like that? Sorry, I can't remember the technical term it was called. I get why NIL was started, but goodness, what is it turning in to? What about the student who is a music major who is practicing many hours a day honing their craft? They don't get a chance at some sort of NIL deal. Couldn't a major musical instrument manufacturer put their name and likeness on instrument ads? Neither does a biochemistry major who might find a medical cure for something while a graduate student. Could they get their picture on an ad for a miracle drug of some sort and make thousands? Does that make sense? I'm sure I'm being totally unrealistic, but it's sort of a two-edged sword with me. Just my 2 cents is all and it ain't worth much...

NIL is for ALL students, but a music student (for example) doesn't get the same opportunities for it...

I get it NC, but it just doesn't sit well with me. I've said my spill so I'm not going to dwell on it here.

I'll still watch Bama play ball just because I enjoy it so much.

The NCAA doesn't govern music majors. They could always do what you described. Stanford and others have tons of students that work on the side in Silicon Valley making millions.

There is no doubt that Auburn is going hard after a QB in the portal. I'd rather them not get any of the Jefferson, Rodgers, or Washington State combo; but it wouldn't surprise me if Freeze ends up landing one of these guys...or perhaps the kid from Duke.
Jefferson- Uof SC likely.
Rodger- I don't think he's gonna consider Auburn.
Duke's Leonard is considering Auburn/ND.

That is good to know about the Silicon Valley students. I know the NCAA doesn't govern them, but it still seems very one-side to me. It is what it is.

I get it, and don’t like it either. That all goes to a larger issue, sports/entertainment holds far to large a position in this country, and the world. And this is just a part of it. But that’s all an issue for a different board.

I’m just wondering how many Bama players hit the portal between Sunday and whatever post season game we play, playoff or bowl game.

What are the thoughts on NIL keeping some players from entering the draft early cause they can make NIL and develop another year for the draft as well. Those JR's that are sitting on the fence instead of taking their chances early they may now choose to stay. We always seem to have a group that Saban recommends another year and they go anyway. I also heard that Quin Ewers may decide to stay another year to improve draft status plus make more NIL. Will this be a trend?

The argument about the unfair advantage of NIL being solely for the student athlete is gonna be kind of tough to make in today's monetized "TIK-TOK" and "YouTube" famous world where if you have personal marketing skills and decent acting chops in front of a camera, you can earn a living at any stage of your life evidently.

I’ve wondered this myself. When it happens, I’ll believe it. A lot of these kids are really full of themselves and if they think they can go make $10mill and not have the responsibility of school I have to think they’ll jump anyway. It all is going to depend on who is in their ear.

As musicians? It's my understanding that a NCAA football player for example could have any job short of something that was benefiting specifically off of his being a football player. There's no better example than guys like Chris Weinke and Kyler Murray who were professional baseball players without losing football eligibility.

Kyler Murray had a multi-million dollar deal without losing eligibility.
