DeBoer gets his first transfer ... and it's a QB. Austin Mack

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

Looks like Sayin was afraid of competition and didn’t think he could win the job, so he quit. Maybe Bama sees him again in a different jersey and makes him quit again.
I wondered about this too ..,…. can’t even stay and try and win the position. Oh well ….. it is what it is …… we are BAMA we will be just fine

My thoughts exactly. The one position where I would guess we do not need is QB.
I think this is CKD being a bit sentimental with a player from his old team, a group he was obviously attached to.
If you watch his HS tape you can see why CKD wants him - he can sling it. His HS coach trained him well in the nuances of the passing game. He is probably more advanced mentally than any QB on the roster, except for possibly Sayin. He looks like a player. The West Coast has typically been advanced on offense, especially the passing game. He is from California.

Edit: did not know about Sayin leaving. I guess now it is even more obvious. Whatever - this kid looks like a player.

If that is the case, Bama doesn’t want anyone that doesn’t want Bama. If the heart is not there, he’s just another mercenary.
Not necessarily a mercenary. I have no idea his reason for leaving but it's possible that since CNS is not going to be there, he had no interest in spending 3-5 years across the country. There are likely multiple factors, mostly related to his career. That was going to be and still is a crowded QB room and without CNS he just didn't think it was worth it.

Gone are the days of developing a QB from scratch....getting a RS QB with a year or so under their belt will be better than a rookie freshman phenom QB every day....we now have good options for this offense. This was a great addition.

Don't think sayin had anything to do with mack. Sayin had been saying he was on board all week, the team seems as shocked by it as everyone else. He isn't running from competition so thats irrelevant. Just didn't want to be here without Saban.

Like I said, any player that actually wants to be here and commits is huge, you wont know who or what position we are going to need for another 3 weeks. Its gonna get ugly.judt bare with it

Mack is a RSFr, I’ll take 2-3 years of a QB that knows this system over a TFrosh that’s never played a snap. The hits we’ve been taking do sting a bit but another portal window opens in April, we should be fine by fall camp.

I guess I’m old enough to remember having lesser talent with sub-par coaching. We are not falling back to the Dubose/Fran/Shula years, just breathe and give KD a chance

That’s not always the case and that’s the quickest thing to say when somebody leaves but it ain’t about the competition anymore. Relationships and NIL will keep kids of today more loyal than anything

Anyone know anything about this Future150 guy?

The height comment is kind of weird, assuming listed heights are accurate (I know they weren't with Bryce Young) he's only one inch shorter than Will Rogers who was the apparent Washington starter.

If you accept the possibility that this is true though, the implications are pretty far reaching. I mean the NIL stuff is probably true, some booster spent in the 6 figures at least on Sayin, they won't be happy either.

Would be a very, very risky move to make deliberately. I'd like to know something definitive, but doesn't make that account accurate. If that's the basis for those rumors I would think that makes them less credible.

For instance, it looks like Future150 only has 109 posts, that doesn't sound like a reputable insider.

Edit: The actual Future150 is a basketball camp that's run by an Alabama graduate and seems to have people from the camp who have played basketball for Alabama. So in theory that actual guy could be plugged in fairly well.

But, not sure the profile pictures match or that poster is actually the guy.

That's a bit myopic. Let's be real, Saban WAS the 'bama brand. He WAS the draw for a lot of these kids. he'd been here 17 years, so they have NEVER in their lives known of 'Bama without Saban - ever. To them it was the same thing. They wanted the oppty play for the GOAT.
