True! An incompletion is better than a 10 or 15 yard sack by far. We had far too many big sacks when there was plenty of time to get the ball out.
We had far too many sacks, with open receivers that Milroe never looked at. He generally looked at the right side of the field for throws. He generally looked at the right side for runs...
I hope DeBoer looks at all snaps from last year. When we simplified things for him, good Defenses had a field day at our expense.

Each quarterback will have their own weaknesses they bring to the QB competition. Unfortunately for Milroe he is THE ONLY QB we as Tidefan members have seen play enough to know his weaknesses. For all we know Ty Simpson is worse at reading defenses, or maybe he's not. We didn't see him play enough to know. So I think that is why JM is seemingly getting "piled on" and the other QB's outlook is more favorable. The other QB's haven't put enough on tape to really see what they do right or wrong in game situations.

But after watching the videos of the offense, whoever wants to be the starter better be a quick decision maker, read defenses pre and post snap (quickly) and know when to pull the RPO and pass it or let the RB keep it, and accuracy is a given. This offense, from the QB position standpoint can't function without the QB being able to do these things.

Last year, our offense in 8 of the 14 games Bama played scored 27 points or less. In two of those eight games, Bama lost. If the defense is not up to last year's standards, the Bama offense will need to win some shootouts if they plan on making the playoffs. I just don't see CKD simplifying the offense to fit one QB if he can't make all the reads. It's either you step up your game or someone else starts. That applies to all positions.

He sees more of the field than you give him credit for. His problem is holding out for his primary target. Then holds too long. He needs to throw to someone else, when his man is not open. And that's coachable.

JM will not be the starting quarterback here next year. How’s that for a wrinkle?
With all the recruiting, transfers, and assessing team personnel needs, do you not think CKD and CRG have already taken a good look at Jalen Milroe as starting QB in their offense? And that if he is definitely not "the guy" to run the offense, then they would have already made that clear to him, and that the portal would be in his best interests?

I know it's an incredibly small sample size, but I think Lonergan has a real shot. As a true freshman in the A-Day game he came across as poised and a good decision maker. If he has developed at all I think he can make a run at it.

No, I do not think they are that stupid. They saw what happened last year, too.

That's not it at all. Way to many times the FIRST read is WIDE open and open early, but the ball rarely makes it out there may be a ton of causes, but the net is the ball does go where it's supposed to go.

Exactly what B1G said, plus I'm sure the coaches told all the guys this is what we plan to run, and what you'll need to be able to do to be successful. The coaches should make sure everyone gets to prove what they can do thru spring...

I definitely agree their offense would have to be modified for Milroe to have any success. Ultimately I think it'll be one of the other 3.

Honestly I'm more worried about the defense.

I'm worried about the D also. We lost a lot of starters and some very key depth components that likely would have had a shot at starting this year. I think the o is going to have to extert some control of the game, and be able to consistenly keep drives moving for us to be successful

You obviously haven't read any of my posts regarding this matter.

I was addressing a specific subtext of the greater plot. It was only an opinion/request.

Agree with that.

I've read plenty of your posts and was making a general statement of my opinion based on your comment.
We really need a truly open QB competition and may the best qb win.

Well, he was coached 12 or 13 games last season and he still held on to the ball in the last game as much as he did in the first so..........

We will probably probably have a good feel after the spring when we see who is in the h portal. The D scares me also.

Do you really think those coaches think JM's passing from last year is good enough to be the QB they want next year???

It seems you think 2023 JM is good enough QB right now that the decision should have already been made.

So NO, if they are half the coaches I think they are, they haven't made a decision to start Jalen but neither have they made a decision not to either. And, if they are as smart/good as I think they are, they should be looking at all four of them very, very hard.

Let the one who picks up the offense and gives us the best chance to win be the man!

Just reading the Lamar Jackson thread and it spurred a thought that maybe gets lost in the QBs discussion.

Which would you rather have? 1 Playmaker OR 4 or 5?

In CKD's offense, the QB is going to play a more pivotal role than ever in regards to getting the ball into the playmakers hands. Each offensive play starts with the QB but ends with their receivers. This is the purpose of the QB...to pass it; not run it. A running QB features one playmaker. A passing QB (in an offense like we will have) features 4 or 5 playmakers.

In the thread devoted to CKD's offensive MO, it stuck out to me when the guy doing the video said most of CNS's recent offensive teams just lined up and basically said, "We are just gong to beat you by being better." This was even more true last year when we tried to out-athlete other teams with a lot of vanilla, QB plays.

All those times we bemoaned not getting receivers involved last year. I just don't see that happening beginning 2024. I don't think Ryan Williams does either.

[playmaker.

We need a distributor of the ball....not an all or nothing superstar.

Bryce saved us bunches of times, but he still distributed the ball to the playmakers.
