I think that not only was Stairway to Heaven not the best Zepplin song, it wasn't even the best song on their fourth album.

Out of the first 5 Albums only Led Zeppelin III has a skippable track.

96% of those singles are as the kids say today Straight Bangers.

You could close your eyes and just pick any track randomly and it would be another bands best track ever.

Yeah, at 70, to me, the CR era had a lot of great music referred to as CR but really wasn’t CR.
The Eagles were never really a CR. band, but from 71-75, their brand of rock (wasn’t really country) was a favorite of mine. And although huge fan of Fleetwood Mac from the 60s (loved Bare Trees), they hit the jackpot when Buckingham/Nicks joined (saw them in first tour).

Rock and Roll was dead by the time you were born. Thanks to the Seattle guys for reviving it. All that from the mid-late 70s to late 80s was sad, SRV being among the few bright spots.

My parents listened to Lawrence Welk, Guy Lombardo, and Mitch Miller :)
My Mom sang Big Band music live on a local radio station in the late 30’s.

Love Zeppelin too. I also love Metallica, Pantera, and anything Chris Cornell put out. Some of you older folks might have to google the last 2.
Good list. Some bands just do a great job of capturing a moment in time. Pantera's performance in Moscow in 1991 is one of the best live performances I have seen. Not a huge fan of Anselmo's singing, but the Paul brothers were awesome at their respective crafts. RIP. (When the band changes tempo after Dime's incredible solo, Lily says that it sounds "crunchy." After seeing all the headbanging, Lan says she needs to schedule an appointment with the chiropractor. ) There's a lot of good stuff from that Monsters of Rock festival.

Real conversation I had with my now 19 year old niece:

Niece: Peanut (I don't like the term Uncle, so my nephews and niece call me Peanut), I'm starting to get into Classic Rock..

Me: Cool. You have any favorites.

Niece: Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus and Katy Perry.

Me: Standing in stony silence. Dying inside.

Niece: What?
I like a variety of classic rock. I can go for anything from CCR to Van Halen to the Hollies to The Boss.

In my high school years I was a big fan of CCR. I owned every album they put out. John Fogerty was a great storyteller. In my college years I got into more progressive rock (Yes, Led Zeppelin, Uriah Heap, ELO, Pink Floyd, etc)

I was in late high school and early college during the heyday of that abomination against the Lord known as Disco. I hated it then and still hate it now.

Bruce Springsteen and to a lesser extent Bob Seger were on my cassette deck. Patti Smith's Because The Night was an anthem. The Cars albums with Vargas covers were solid, too.

Yes, it was a desert. But there were some oases. Bryan Adams kept the flame burning in the 80s.

Agreed that Nirvana changed things. I didn't fully appreciate them at the time. I do now.

So you had 8-tracks as well. :). I started at Bama in fall 75. The Who was scheduled to play in Tuscaloosa thst school year but the concert was cancelled. I saw Led Zeppelin in Birmingham in 76 or 77 - don’t remember which year.

I think the White Sox had a I Hate Disco night during one of their games that turned into a riot.

I had 8-tracks too. There were some really good concerts in Tuscaloosa and Birmingham back in those days.

The night before I saw Zeppelin in Birmingham, the Grateful Dead played in Tuscaloosa. I had to work and missed that one.

Von Braun Civic Center in Huntsville had some good concerts back then, especially given Huntsville wasn't that large a city at the time. The best show I saw there was probably the Eagles with Poco as the opener.

Never had an 8-Track, though I had plenty of friends who did. Cassette only.
