JessN: Assistant coach hiring tracker...

Do we know DeBoer didn't check with Moore first? He may have, and Moore wasn't interested.

Yeah, we Bama Fans in general tend to lean toward "we're Alabama so we can go get whoever we want" syndrome. Grubb and Huff are prime example of our spoiled nature isn't necessarily reality then some of us lose our minds being rejected.

"always" is not true. Besides, Sheridan is familiar with DeBoer's offense, just as Moore is. I think Sheridan will be fine.
I did preface it with "we'll be fine" it doesn't really matter who we hire, because it's DeBoer's offense. The rest is just determining who is a part of the brain trust. I never like to go in house for anything, just as a personal preference. It also would have been the ultimate power move to steal from an in conference team who might be a playoff contender. That's enough to generate a little disappointment. At the end of the day, however, we are gonna win a few championships under DeBoer, no matter who the offensive coordinator is. He's already made enough good moves in his short time here that i would trust that man with my life. I am both disappointed in the short term, because this would have been a great opportunity to silence the haters that have popped up so we don't have to listen to them all off-season, but in the long term, I'm excited for the future.

I never like the co-oc thing anyway because who calls the plays? If Sheppard didn't get some kind of promotion I believe we would lose him and he's a very good wr coach, also a name I've heard thrown around is Bill Durkin (sp) Liberty online coach old school guy like Kyle Flood, we need some old school kinda guy

Most are thinking Sheridan will move to QB coach in addition to his OC duties. Then we’ll hire someone for TE’s and someone to replace Huff on the Oline.

News reports this morning are speculating that Jay Nunez might be promoted to coach TEs

Sheridan is expected to work with the quarterbacks and call plays.
Shephard will be Co-OC, and have an expanded role in the offense.
Both Shephard and Sheridan had multiple job offers this off season.

Saw a beat writer mention Matt Luke is available. Always liked him. Nunez at te and pay Luke whatever amount of brinks trucks it takes

He is at Clemson now as O line coach. I read he didn’t like the way Kirby did some things, but not sure what that means.

And if I'm not mistaken Dabo just got his on field staff significant raises. I guess he figured out that part of his success a few years back was keeping the same staff together for as long as possible.

I know we'll be fine, but man, I'm disappointed we didn't go after Kirby Moore. Going in house for a vacancy like this is always incredibly underwhelming.
In other industries, the ability successfully to promote to the senior executive level from within is a healthy sign and has been correlated (Jim Collins et al.) with superior performance versus competitors who relied on outside talent. I know of no study looking at that in the highest levels of FBS football or the NFL, but as so few such programs do it I am not sure there would be sufficient data to mine…

What about Khurtiss Riggs as QB coach?

If Riggs joins the staff, I expect it to be in an off-field capacity.

I know someone who is an extremely close connection to Matt Luke. Two things I'll say about Luke: One, he's supposedly one helluva human being in addition to being a really good OL coach. Two, I don't expect him back in the SEC. Not saying it absolutely won't happen, but it would surprise me if he did, because of what kind of a meat grinder this conference is (and it's just going to get worse).

Overall, we'll be just fine, we just need to get the entire coaching staff finalized. I am uber excited about the staff CKD has put together because (and no disrespect to the great one, Nick Saban) the last handful of years I think CNS's staff suffered in quality compared to previous years.

I believe this what was the greatest impact of Coach Saban's age. top notch assistants being unwilling to risk coming to Bama knowing that he could retire at any moment, as in fact he actually did. It may well have played a large part in his decision to quit.

UPDATE...

Moved Nick Sheridan and JaMarcus Shephard up to Co-OC and Sheridan from TE coach to QB coach. We expect Jay Nunez to move up to the TE coach slot next, as well as coach special teams.

We've also added a couple of names to the OL board, Greg Frey and Alex Atkins. We've also been told the OL coaching position will likely not be filled as quickly as the OC position was, due to the time needed to evaluate several external candidates.

Seems we should hear who the new OC is already, or maybe tomorrow. If they anticipated Grubb's departure DeBoer should have the next OC already lined up. If they have to search outside the current coaching staff for an OC then a plan was not in place.
Well it looks like CKD responded to my request. He named Sheridan the OC on the day I mentioned. It's good to know anyway that there was indeed a plan in place to replace Grubb. Choosing a guy on staff proved it. Sheridan probably a decent choice since he has familiarity with DeBoer's style.
