Border thread part II

I watched a 15 minute segment with Michael Moore this morning. He's trying to save Biden from Biden by pointing out what he thinks Biden is doing wrong in Israel. He led the vote "undecided" movement in Michigan.
It's painful to watch him twist himself into a pretzel explaining he doesn't want Trump reelected, but then he says enough might be upset over Gaza that they stay at home on voting day and then Trump wins after all and that's the last thing he wants.
concern trolling at it's finest

Fact: Biden rescinded some of the EO's that were in place that curbed illegal immigration. Without those deterrents, illegal immigrations spiked. Now he's considering back-pedaling a bit on some of those policies.

Fact: the Senate sent a good reform bill to the House, which the House shot down for political reasons, not because the bill was bad. That said, if the dems really wanted to deal with the border, they could send a clean bill (without the massive spending unrelated to immigration) but they haven't.

Fact: Biden has a few things he could do that would, at the very least, reduce illegal immigration, yet he has chosen not to.

You can use pretzel logic all day long to make excuses for Biden, but he caused a lot of this with his messaging leading up to and just after his inauguration. Hopefully he'll do something to reduce the stream of illegals before the election.

Shouldn't he have been deported when first arrested?
I’d say whoever released him has some “splaining to do; if it’s not the law to deport them post arrest for criminal behavior, why not? At this point, it should be no bail until hearing, and if there’s sufficient evidence for trial, send them home and save the time and money. If they come back - life in prison at hard labor (reinstate it for this situation). US citizens and legal residents get second chances; illegals who prove they can’t obey the laws (and ignorance is no excuse) need to go.
obviously his first crime wasn’t severe - shouldn’t matter.

Just another "coincidence":

Texas Newspaper Issues Warning About Secession

ATexas newspaper issued a warning on Saturday, which is also Texas Independence Day, about the state seceding from the United States as a number of Republican candidates for the Texas House of Representatives and other offices are showing support for it.

There has been growing interest in what would happen if Texas did vote to become an independent nation, as it was for nine years between declaring independence from Mexico in 1836 and joining the U.S. in 1845. Such calls have been intensified by tensions between authorities in Texas and the federal government over how to handle the influx of migrants crossing into the U.S. from the southern border.

In an opinion piece published on Saturday titled, "Texas voters, beware of pro-secession candidates," the Dallas Morning News' editorial board raised concerns over Republican candidates signing the "Take Texas Back" pledge.

"As Super Tuesday approaches, Republican primary voters in Texas should beware. A worrying number of candidates for the Texas House of Representatives and other offices have signed the 'Take Texas Back' pledge that makes them promise to advance legislation to help Texas secede from the United States under certain conditions," the opinion piece read.

Lots to unwrap in this statement.

First, Check out Project 2025. It gives the blueprint for enabling Trump to do away with the government barriers that kept him in check last time. A second term will be far different than the first. They have told us their plans over and over. We'd be wise to take them at their word.

Biden does not have similar plans and what he decides to do is really an entirely different consideration apart from what an out of control Trump enabled by others in Congress and the courts will do if back in power.

It's also a bit ironic when those who generally eschew executive orders as overreach turn around and say that the president should override law and precedent with executive orders.

Could Biden do more?

Possibly.

Would it be the right thing overall?

Debatable.

There is no debate that congressional republicans had a golden opportunity to put into law some things that would have helped greatly and that Biden and the democrats are still willing to get it done but republicans have decided that having a campaign issue for low information voters is more important.

And there's no doubt things would change if the law was passed, including more border patrol and enforcement and faster adjudication of cases with fewer releases into the country of immigrants who may not have a legitimate case.
Fun fact - The “immigration “ bill went nowhere because Trump told Johnson to kill it. I’d bet anyone on here, whatever amount they choose, that Trump never mentioned a syllable about the aid package in the bill: he doesn’t want the immigration problem solved (many Republicans don’t).
Another fun fact - the bill would’ve passed the House, by all accounts, if it had been brought to a vote. Enough members of Congress knew something had to be done, and were more comfortable with the aid packages included, than some in here.
Final fun fact - the aid packages included in the bill had zero to do with its failure; it failed because it wasn’t voted on.
Clear statement of position on the aid packages: we should give everything possible in military aid, and reasonable “closely monitored “ funds for rebuilding their infrastructure and medical facilities, to Ukraine.
We should not give another dime to Israel until they firmly agree to a two state solution.
For the sake of putting a major effort into addressing (not solving) the problem at the southern border, I was ok with what was in the bill, because something must be done at the border yesterday.

Its time for Biden to do something. Its make or break for him now for Nov 5. A majority of voters do NOT like seeing what is happening on the border and want someone in the Whitehouse who will take action and it needs to be done NOW. The longer he waits, the more he assures the election for trump! Like it or not, this election is too important to let it be decided by thousands of illegals streaming across the border every day to decide the results of the election because of their actions.

Well, according to the article posted above, we are upset with all the illegal crossings and the mass of humanity approaching the border. But we are failing miserably at telling the story of the massive deportation effort that is concurrently taking place. We are deporting well over 1 million immigrants annually. But no one talks about that...

I thought that sounded high so I googled it. Per WAPO:
Deportations of migrants rise to more than 142,000 under Biden
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement deported more than 142,000 immigrants in fiscal year 2023, nearly double the number from the year before, as the Biden administration ramped up enforcement to stem illegal border crossings, according to the agency’s annual report, published Friday.

Included in details of a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit first reported by Todd Bensman, the Center for Immigration Studies found Biden's CBP approved the latest secretive flights that transported hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants from foreign countries into at least 43 different American airports from January through December 2023.

Looks like the problem isn't limited to the border. I think I hear the fat lady warming up.

Looks like the problem isn't limited to the border. I think I hear the fat lady warming up.

What a deceptive ball of lies.

Let's look at this:

Just below the headline:

  • A lawsuit reveals Biden's CBP is refusing to disclose airports where it is flying undocumented aliens from other countries

Now this would make you think that these people were coming without authorization or legal right, which is not true. Look at their next bullet point:

  • Biden's expansion of the CBP One app allows migrants to apply for asylum in their country, be flown to the U.S. and given two-years to obtain legal status
They again repeat the lie:

Use of a cell phone app has allowed for the near undetected arrival by air of 320,000 aliens with no legal rights to enter the United States.

(bold assertion, Cotton)

Included in details of a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit first reported by Todd Bensman, the Center for Immigration Studies found Biden's CBP approved the latest secretive flights that transported hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants from foreign countries into at least 43 different American airports from January through December 2023.

(again, bold assertion)

The program was part of Biden's expansion of the CBP One app, which kicked off at the start of last year.

Migrants were able, under Biden's expansion, to apply for asylum using the app from their home countries.

(which makes their entry completely legal under law)

But the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) notes that the transportation of these migrants directly to the U.S. is one of the lesser known uses of the app.

Aliens who cannot legally enter the U.S. use CBP One to apply for travel authorization and temporary humanitarian release from those airports.

Again, this makes their entry legal and gives them legal status as asylum seekers no matter how many times someone claims their entry is unlawful, illegal, undocumented, or any other buzzword that sends the ignorant into conniptions.

I thought it was illegal entries we were worried about.

Or was that a lie?

And do some of us wish to believe the lies in the article, which contradicts itself?

Scanners that spot smuggled fentanyl at the border sit unused because Congress hasn't provided the cash to install them
The money to install the screeners was in the supplemental funding request Republicans blocked.

More than 95% of fentanyl seized at the border, Miller said, is actually brought into the U.S. in personal vehicles.

“We do have technology that’s in the warehouse that has been tested. But we need approximately $300 million [to] actually put the technology in the ground,” Miller said. “It’s extremely frustrating.”

Meanwhile, SCOTUS is considering overruling 50 years of precedent with the Chevron doctrine. Do virtually everything must be legislated by Congress and virtually nothing will get passed throwing chaos into everything the government does...
