Questions about Milroe.

I'm late to this thread, so if this has already been answered, I apologize.

Are we to understand the 1st half of the Georgia game -- where Milroe was playing lights out -- was just a fluke?
I'm no coach, but from what I could tell, we had a terrific offensive and defensive scheme in the first half that GA was totally unprepared for and in the second half we got outcoached, outschemed, and outplayed.

And it appears that we've been outcoached, outschemed and outplayed by every opponent since the second half of the GA game, but were lucky to come away with the win against SC.

The entire team is really quite a mess right now.

From what we can tell we threw some stuff at them never put on film. We ran a lot of scripted plays then when they ran out and UGA had time to make adjustments, they did. Then all the bag of tricks were on tape for everyone else thereafter to gameplan for.

Once Milroe has to start reading defenses and making adjustments pre-snap he's done. He can't do it and that's why we have wide-open receivers on pass routes not getting thrown the ball. He's field blind.

This is quite the understatement

We also don't seem to be capable of adjusting during the game, and that's on the coaches.

We went from one of the all-time greats in terms of fixing things in-game to what appears to be no adjustments at all.

Pretty much.

The offense looked totally different in the first half of the UGA game than it has pretty much every other game this year - lots of pre-snap movement, even total formation changes, etc. Bama hasn't done nearly as much of this the rest of the season, not sure why.

But yeah, JM has had plenty of opportunities to let the naysayers know, but all he's done is emboldened them and in fact, increased their numbers. His play in the last two outings has been hot garbage.

I've never seen this phrase before. It is on-point.

I use it with my baseball players. Field vision can make average athletes great ballplayers and the lack of field vision can make the best of athletes subpar ballplayers. If you can't see the field properly it's hard to succeed.

I can’t remember if it was Gmac or AJ but one of them said earlier this week that Milroe doesn’t have a plan when he calls for the snap.

That basically means he has no idea where he has a favorable matchup pre snap based on the Defensive alignment nor is he calling a hot route based on what he’s seeing.

Post snap he seems to primarily look for RW and if he’s covered he maybe finds the Secondary option.

I mean it’s problematic when your QB is bad at reading and seeing the field both pre-snap and post snap.

At this point, with this team, I can't even say its the coaches not making adjustments. The offense can't run smoothly because of our QB play. The defense is all over the place, we get no penetration with the DL, the secondary is in the tent, the LBs aren't aggressive.

This team is a mess. This crap started two/three seasons ago and with Saban gone has completely spiraled. They aren't even fun to watch at this point.

Others have answered the question, but it bears repeating that this is the power of scripted plays. Our gameplan for them was one that we had worked on and hit them at their weakest points. It featured short, aggressive passes and misdirection plays that left them flatfooted for the first 3 or 4 drives.

But as for the part JM played, the important thing to consider is that the scripted plays took the decision making away from JM and all he had to do is "Run the called play."

This is the ONLY logical conclusion to how this worked and how he looked so good. It's an aberration to how he normally plays.

And then, when they adjusted, and it took adjustments that required more thinking/field vision from JM, it was over.

The Georgia game is a microcosm of good JM and bad JM. He's 50/50; boom/bust and in big games he gives us about a .500 chance to win, which won't cut it for the Bama Standard!

That's not a QB.....that's a player playing out of position. He can't play QB, move him somewhere else or bench him.

How in the world are you a QB at this level and you can't make reads???? I don't know a lot about football, but this seems like a basic must-have skill to me.

It has to be a situation where during the week he understands the concepts on paper/film but when it’s time to put it to practice in the game he just can’t do it.

Kind of how some people can study for a test and know the material but on test day they just meltdown and fail.

Not that it helps but insiders who saw summer/fall practices were saying our Defense shut him down too yet Ty was unstoppable.

The whole situation is beyond frustrating.

CKD runs a QB centric offense. Until that position plays at a high level, the offense will continue to sputter.

If we narrow it down to ONE THING, this is it! He may have terrible mechanics/footwork/accuracy, but if he can't see the field he can't play QB at this level.

Field vision is fundamental to most sports. And the key to it is being able to see something a split second before it happens. I'm a former basketball player and I compare it to a point guard seeing the passing lane and deciding to make the pass just a split second before the passing lane is visible to everyone else.

But it's not just for QBs and PGs, it's important for receivers and RBs too. TJ Yeldon may be one of the best examples of this in recent Bama RB history. It's why he was so good at executing screen passes. We all remember the one that broke LSU's heart, but he did this all the time. He could see the blocks ahead of him and adjust to where the hole would be. He made something hard look easy.

We are being held hostage by NIL and branding. There is no other explanation I can think of.

There is absolutely no way Ty is so bad that Milroe has to stay in the game.

There is only so much the coaches can do. At some point the players need to execute the plays/schemes that are called.

We aren't really going to be able to see what DeBoer can do at Bama until there are a group of players gone and DeBoer gets his guys in the program.
