and it was almost a month ago. So how long do we keep the flag lowered? a month? a year? 10 years? when?

In the early days of our country, no regulations existed for flying the flag at half-staff and, as a result, there were many conflicting policies. But on March 1, 1954, President Dwight Eisenhower issued a proclamation on the proper times.

The flag should fly at half-staff for 30 days at all federal buildings, grounds, and naval vessels throughout the United States and its territories and possessions after the death of the president or a former president.

Right-Wing Activists Celebrate the Death of Planned Parenthood Leader
“God’s mercy is perfect, and so is His vengeance.”
On Monday, Cecile Richards, the former head of Planned Parenthood and founder of the women’s political action group Supermajority, died at age 67 of brain cancer.

...not everyone was heartbroken about her passing. In some corners of social media, anti-abortion right-wing activists implied that her death was divine retribution for her activism on abortion rights.

To her nearly half-million followers on X, Allie Beth Stuckey, a conservative podcaster and author of a new book about how our culture suffers from a surfeit of empathy, wrote: “All I’ll say is that I’m thankful we serve a God of justice, who avenges the blood of the innocent. Cecile Richards, who cheerfully presided over the murder of millions of innocent babies, now understands that full well.”

Sean Davis, founder of right-wing publication the Federalist, echoed that sentiment. “Cecile Richards was a demonic, baby-killing monster who, absent repentance to and acceptance of Christ, is now reaping the eternal reward for the evil she committed on this earth,” he blasted to 539,000 followers on X. “God’s mercy is perfect, and so is His vengeance.”

Then there were the sentiments from Dusty Deevers, an Oklahoma state senator, who posted to his 25,000 followers on X that Richards’ death was evidence that “all who promote and profit from wickedness will one day stand before His throne.”

Tribalism is alive and well in this forum...

It's human nature.

Bill Maher noted a couple of years ago (can't link - language) that folks need to study that part of revolutions where they spin out of control because "the revolutionaries get so drunk on their own purifying elixir, they imagine they can reinvent the very nature of human beings."

MAGA Christianity is Anti-Jesus. Just ask Jesus.

Rev. Mariann Edgar Budde’s compassionate sermon at the National Prayer Service in DC perfectly exposed MAGA Christians’ hateful heresy.

The immediate flood of vitriol directed at the Bishop by Trump supporters in the wake of her impassioned message directed toward President Trump regarding empathy for the vulnerable isn’t surprising.

That’s what happens when these people are faced with the teachings of Jesus: they respond like vampires to daylight.

Trump Christians despise the Revered for the same reason they despise all ministers who confront them with the Gospels. I’ve experienced it for a decade and their outrage now is familiar and predictable.

“It’s a freaking flag” is an interesting take and matches how I feel about a daily recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance and standing/kneeling during the National Anthem. I do think it was disrespectful to Carter, but I’m not going to get that upset over it. It’s simply another example of Trump’s boundless ego and the way his sycophants consistently choose to satisfy his need for attention.

Well I have mixed feelings about the National Anthem. 1) I’ve always stood for it and will continue you out of some respect and honor that I feel for it 2) I honestly couldn’t care less what others do for it nor do I judge them for doing what they do for and 3) I’ve always felt that we picked the wrong song for the National Anthem.

As for the pledge… I really don’t know. I go through the motions quite honestly. However I got a coworker that gets bent out of shape about people not standing for it.

Most people don’t like it when they’re told to look in the mirror and ask themselves tough questions because their behaviors have been wrong.

Christians especially don’t like it.

I imagine even if the Jesus that flipped over tables questioned them face to face he’d get a ‘how dare you’ glance.

Then they'd demand to speak to the manager.

REPORTER: Will you insist on voter ID as a condition for disaster aid for California?

MIKE JOHNSON: We have been lamenting the lack of voter security there for some time. We were deeply concerned in this last election cycle and we saw 3 of our seats frankly slip away from us in California.

Cheating in elections only seems to happen when Republicans lose. I used to coach a t-ball team who often complained in similar circumstances.
