Bama Game Thread: Official PostGame Thread - Bama vs. IU...

I like Coach Deboer. I feel like he reflects well on the University. I don't like his finesse type of football. We are not a physical team and I'm afraid we will never be under Coach Deboer. The thing that scares me is we will win a lot of games, never be dominate, and we will get physically dominated in big games. I don't know if a coach who has always coached one way (finesse) can suddenly become a physical coach. Is it reasonable or even sane to expect that? I don't think so. That means we are in for a bumpy ride people
Coach Bryant and Coach Saban changed their philosophies so it can be done. The question is do the coaches on this staff have the will to look inside and figure it out.
I'm willing to give them a shot.
I do agree with some others, though, that if the staff is not willing to change to make things better and we keep getting out physicaled by other teams when it counts then he may need to find a job elsewhere.
I'm all for giving a man a chance but if things don't continue to improve/staff not willing to make changes then there is a time to turn the lights out.

I honestly do not know what to think about this Jekyll and Hyde team. This coach. This staff. This program. No, CKD ain’t gonna magically fix all these issues. I’m seriously in doubt that he’s capable of building and motivating a championship caliber program in the SEC without the generational talented QB such as a Penix. There hasn’t been a complete game played at all this season and it seems there are seldom ever adjustments made to what the competition is doing. I’m never going to abandon my team but this sorta performance is really painful to watch and root for.

Roll Tide.

Yeah, and look where Seattle is now.
13-3 with a inside shot at the #1 seed. Sam Darnold playing at an elite level.
Grubb is a problem.
Sam Darnold was leading the Vikings to 14-3 record last season in Minnesota. Grubb had Geno Smith and Sam Howell at quarterback last year in Seattle. Smith is now at Vegas leading a 2-14 team. I think the difference isn’t Grubb but going from Smith to Darnold.

after the FSU game, I tried to listen to him, but came away thinking the dude looks and sounds like a Home Depot manager
Want to feel even worse, watch Mario Cristobal if Miami beat Ohio State, then watch any DeBoer press conference. One guy comes across as having heart, passion, intentionality, intellect, drive, etc. The other comes across like a guy who read a couple of books on football and went to a game once.

I think it’s a combo of both but you are right the change in QB for Seattle cannot be glossed over.

But here is the thing… 22 was the most talented team ever recruited according to most recruiting sources said. Lost 2 games with Bryce Young. So I don’t really put faith in recruiting rankings anymore. We have had a bad development staff since 19 and most of it was covered up by elite quarterback play.

23 is a team that I gave heck but it may have been a combination of the luckiest Alabama team in history and Saban’s best coordinator hires on both sides in a single year. Rees and Steele don’t get enough credit for pulling a truly lackluster staff to a 12 win season in a single year.

Indiana has better development coaches in two years than what we have had in the last 5. They 100% earned this win over developing smarter less talented players. Whether they last is unknown. They are still the Royals competing with the Yankees and Dodgers. I think our situation is still competitive NIL wise but we can’t live off talent. We desperately need to better returns on development. To go back to the baseball analogy we are the Cardinals competing with the Dodgers and Yankees. We got money and can get great talent, but we can’t buy a roster and just say “go win a championship” with that talent.
playing around with cheetah defenses and pass happy offenses had an effect on both sides of the ball. Nick went from good recruiters with finesse schemes , then back to soso recruiters that were good teachers but the culture of the program was damaged. 2018-2019 season was the worst thing to happen to the program.

Is there anybody out there who would be motivated by anything CKD had to say? Really?

I loved listening to Saban. It didn’t matter what he was discussing - I’d listen. He held your attention.

CKD is like Charlie Brown’s teacher. All that comes out is blah blah blah blah. If I’m a 20 year old millionaire, I wouldn’t pay attention to him. At all. He’s boring, and has nothing to say. Ever. He couldn’t motivate me to do anything.

If I was a 23 year old 3 star, and Cignetti was talking, I’d listen and pay attention.

And we saw the results of that tonight.

And that's the new playoff era for you. Still not realistic comparison. You can't compare last years Super Bowl playoff teams with the worst in league. That's something we need to temper as fans now that we are here and the playoffs are likely to expand. That's like Notre Dame refusing to go to a bowl game because they didn't get picked in the playoffs. The mentality of "If I'm not the best, then I must be horrible!" Not so and an overreaction.

At some point we are going to have to break this expectation that we are going to be the National Champion every year and if we ain't then we need to fire everyone. We will never get anyone that wants to take the HC job at Alabama. We "lucked" into Saban because he wasn't successful in the NFL.
I don't expect us to win the national championship every year, but I do think we should be putting a team out there every year that can contend for one. No, if we lose we shouldn't be hollering fire everyone, but today was one butt-ugly game that makes you wonder what we're actually doing behind the scenes. I would not have been one bit surprised if Indiana won today, but how we looked in defeat was just bad. No fight at all in the team.
