CONFIRMED Assists.: Steele, Thompson, Smart, Alles, Pendry, Davis, Middleton, (more)

Re: CONFIRMED Assistant Coaches: Steele, Thompson

Looks like Fisher to FSU is complete. So Tom Clement should be our OC. I suggest we welcome him to Bama with a swift kick in the nutts as payback for 1973. After that, we will give him a hug and embrase him as one of our own. :)

FYI, Clement is just my guess.

has there been an announcement?

Not to my knowledge. I've read that Fisher went with his initial agreement to Bowden early this evening, but that Saban contacted him afterwards, and now his final decision won't come until sometime this weekend.

'Relentless' seems an apt description of our new head coach.

You are right!

We offered and have been given no official answer yet. We probably won't know for sure until it goes public.

Re: CONFIRMED Assistant Coaches: Steele, Thompson

Tuscaloosa News reporting that the Fisher thing will go into the weekend. Also reporting that Saban contacted the Boise St OC about the Bama OC job but was turned down.

Additionally, KTVB-TV in Idaho reported that Saban called Boise State offensive coordinator Bryan Harsin on Thursday night to congratulate him on the Fiesta Bowl victory and asked if he was interested in being the offensive coordinator at Alabama. According to the report, Harsin said no thanks.

Re: CONFIRMED Assistant Coaches: Steele, Thompson

BOL is reporting that Kirby Smart, Bobby Williams, and Travis Jones will "likely" end up on the staff".

Re: CONFIRMED Assistant Coaches: Steele, Thompson

Although I realize it probably won't happen, I wouldn't mind Rader being considered for the OC. I think he's in lockstep with current Offensive Play thinking.....although that may not be completely in line with what CNS wants. (although he did go after the Boise OC)

Re: CONFIRMED Assistant Coaches: Steele, Thompson

What hath Mal wrought?

Since the hiring of Saban, chaos has ensued:

1. LSU's staff is being poached. Although not directly linked to the Saban hiring, Jimbo Fisher is entertaining offers to coordinate the offenses of FSU and Alabama and possibly the HC position at Georgia Tech. Stacy Searels may be offered a position as well here.

2. Miami may be looking at Chan Gailey to replace Saban. This could be the chance for Fisher to get a HC position. That may prevent FSU from getting Fisher, who they thought was a lock.

3. FSU has lost their well-respected LB coach and most recently accomplished recruiter, Kevin Steele, to Bama. This may cost them a recruit or two as well.

4. Some UT fans are openly discussing their program bolting from the SEC and going to the... BIG EAST. :eek2:  At the least, they now realize that Fulmer is going to have a tough time recruiting with the resurgence of Bama, Georgia, Florida, Notre Dame and USC.

5. The South Florida sports journalists are behaving like so many jilted lovers and calling Saban every name in the unabridged dictionary of pejoratives. I'm sure that they are quite displeased that Saban left, but the thought of him leaving them for such a backward state full of inbred and uncultured "hicks" has to be a shock to their aristocratic sensibility. How dare he leave them for a lower class of people? It seems the modern version of Ādwa (1896 battle where Italy was defeated by the Ethiopians... Europeans couldn't fathom being defeated by such a lowly and inferior race), judging from the unrepentant haught and loathing coming from the Miami area.

6. Similarly, ESPN appears to have taken a no-holds-barred stance of bashing Alabama and Saban. It's no secret that the Bristol, Connecticut based media outlet has a history of being accused of anti-SEC sentiment. It's fairly evident that they take the side of the Miami press in their disbelief that Saban would spurn the elite NFL and the cultural mecca of South Florida for the third-world area of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. They understand that geographic location determines intelligence and morality because ESPN personalities have access to the latest, breakthrough eugenics studies by Alfred Hoche and Karl Binding.

Of course, everything will settle down and we'll be back to winning and the world will be right. Hopefully, Colin Cowherd and the rest of the Bristol group won't implement their interpretation of the "Aktion T4" plan for the inferior denizens of the south.

Re: CONFIRMED Assistant Coaches: Steele, Thompson

Word is that Shane Beamer has accepted an offer and will likely coach special teams, though running backs would be an option as well.

Re: CONFIRMED Assistant Coaches: Steele, Thompson

So reports are that Smart and Beamer are on board, but it has yet to be confirmed from the AD?

Re: CONFIRMED Assistant Coaches: Steele, Thompson

If Beamer knows special teams like his dad, that would bode well for the Tide!!!

Re: CONFIRMED Assistant Coaches: Steele, Thompson

If Beamer is getting the special teams unit, then I think we know what we're getting there if his father rubbed off on him at all. Smart, too, is probably over-qualified for this job if anything. An NFL position coach don't normally come to take a college position coach job.

You know, I had not thought of myself in such inferior terms in quite a while, so I appreciate you helping me to quickly get over my euphoria (I know, a big word for me), and return to my place in the sports caste system. When we begin to dominate the SEC West, Play in Atlanta, and are mentioned in BCS rankings conversations in late Novermber each year, I will try not to be too haughty (another large word) and will be gracious and thankful for the opportunity to be thought of by the ESPN personalities, let alone be complimented. I fell better now, sort of. At leat I can still look forward to an encouraging word from Kirk Herbstreit.
