Link: Texas Tech QB Sorsby Entering Treatment for Gambling Addiction

Judge rules that Sorsby would "suffer a probable, imminent and irreparable injury."

So what about the “probable, imminent and irreparable” damage granting his request will do to Sorsby’s chances at long term recovery?

This judge just told this kid “no harm, no foul”. This is so damn “short sighted”. Get ready for Art Schlichter 2.0.

I hope the NCAA appeals and gets the case out of local courts.

I'm confident they'll win if they do that. This is a twist on what I call the fraternity boy defense....."Come on man, I was drunk. What I did doesn't count."

Sorsby's answer is, "I'm an addict. What I did in the throes of my addiction doesn't count....It's not my fault I'm sick.

As absurd as this ruling is, and it is unbelievably absurd, I don't think this is the last of it. I would imagine this will be appealed, but the timing will be interesting. Hopefully, the NCAA can get this pushed before the season starts. I just can't imagine that anyone outside of Texas Tech fans see this anything but a blackeye on the sport. Not only did he break the rules and gamble on college sports, he gambled on his own team. It would be embarrassing if he gets to play another down of NCAA football.

So flaunt the rules, make up some sad sob story, get a favorable LOCAL judge to rule in your favor, voilá! Noted.

I said that once they introduced NIL players would sue for eligibility.

Even I, for all my whining about what NIL would do to the sport didn't see this one coming.

The NCAA isn't blameless here though obviously. They caved on NIL, they have allowed the line between pro and amateur to be blurred beyond recognition. And now they basically have no rules they can enforce anymore.

Here’s a twist. Regardless of how good this kid is, will an NFL team touch him with a 10,000 foot pole? I don’t think any of them would knowing he has bet on his team. I really think a year off to get past this then playing a year clean if he can get it, gets him away from the trouble and might help him as far as getting into the league.

And any rule they try to come up with will be challenged as “you’re trying to restrict my ability to earn money” and will get shot down.

He won't get drafted high, but if he has NFL talent then he will find his way on to an NFL team. Shedeur Sanders did far less in terms of off field issues and he fell to the fifth round, yet might be the starter in Cleveland this coming season. I just don't know if Sorsby has NFL talent. I watched the Big 12 title game and Texas Tech's CFP quarterfinal game and just didn't see an NFL QB, but I also have no idea what I'm looking at in terms of scouting NFL talent. Point being, I doubt an NFL team will gamble on him with a high pick, pun intended, but they will get a shot with an NFL team if he has the talent. He will just have to prove himself both on and off the field more so than someone who played by the rules.
