2019 Spring Practice Thread

A few people have complained about a lack of action on the football board. Part of that is this is the first year in recent memory that we didn't have a QB battle.

But just imagine the next couple of years when Jones, Tyson and Taulia are battling it out!

And if PBJ and Mr. Tag. are having fistfights on the sidelines it will truly be exciting!!!

IMO absolutely cannot get any of the ILBs hurt, especially Moses. Having said that, a plan will no doubt be in place for when we do. This is my personal biggest concern.
Agreed - been the same story for 3 seasons now. With Lee and Harris in this class it's better, but I still would have loved to get one of the other ILB targets we were after. I think what looked like a lack of development from Wilson hurt us with some of those guys so I'm hoping we see Moses take a huge step forward to show we can develop good ILBs with this staff.

It's on my "worry" list. Minor, but it's there...

Tell you what...no matter how much power someone has, especially that someone at the Capstone, the GOAT would set 'em straight in a New York Second and ain't nothin' he'd be able to do but send the boy though the transfer portal.

i just read a teaser article on bamainsider.com that said there was a change on the DL for the 2nd scrimmage. Freshman DJ Dale was the starter at DT along with DE's Raekwon and Labran Ray. Mathis was with the 2nd unit. The 1st team OL was Leatherwood, Ekiyor, Owens, Womack and Wills.

Man, it's just hard to grasp that we have some possible depth issues at LB. Some young uns are gonna see the field most likely.

It sounds like Taulia might have a chance to jump Mac Jones at some point...

[h=1]Alabama Football Scrimmage #2 Update: Injury Scare, QB Reports & DJ Dale Making a Move[/h]
[h=4](Second Team) Quarterback Controversy?[/h]Saban liked what he saw from both first teams, offense and defense, but was not so pleased with the second teams.
There were reports that backup quarterback Mac Jones had a rough day, throwing four picks. Saban commented that some of the interceptions (not specifying whose) were “off of peoples hands, tipped balls” and “not all the quarterback’s fault.” While others were “not as good a decisions as we’d like.” Tua Tagovailoa, who threw a pair himself, had a ball picked off by Jared Mayden that walk-on tight end Giles Amos let go through his hands.
Taulia Tagovailoa took over the second team after Jones’ fourth pick. It would be a surprise if Jones did not line-up as the starter for the second team offense for the A-Day Game. But speculation outside the program is that the true freshman “Lia” will eventually leapfrog Jones on the depth chart.

Somebody been reading Tidefans.

Seriously, I don't know who might be saying this "outside the program" but I know of few of us have suggested this might could happen with Lia or Tyson jumping Mac. Throwing 4 ints will open up lots of possibilities.

That caught my attention:

The feedback was once again great regarding the top two running backs — Najee Harris and Brian Robinson. Harris had at least one touchdown as well as some nice-sized runs during which he broke multiple tackles. — Word is that third-string running back Jerome Ford also made some plays after also having some good moments during the team’s first spring scrimmage. The redshirt freshman had a touchdown run of about 20 yards as well as at least one other run of 20 or so yards. Chadarius Townsend had a touchdown, too. Townsend, a converted wide receiver who has been working with the running backs throughout the spring, had a touchdown run of around 10 yards.

Trey Sanders got lot of work to do this summer and this fall... because He might not play a lot if the rotation of the RBs continues.

From what I have seen of Trey Sanders there will be no keeping him off the field. I have tended to view CNS's comments as basically saying that he expects Sanders to be able to contribute this season. Some project Sanders as the most talented RB prospect that CNS has had... as difficult as that is to imagine.

I've seen no speculation about Lia and Tyson's performance other than the little snippet of Mac Jones throwing 4 INTs.

Did Lia or Tyson actually do some good things or did they just "mess up" less?

There have been rumblings that Lia is ahead of Tyson. I would not doubt if both pass Jones on the depth chart by the time the season starts.

Interesting. The conventional wisdom is Lia played in a better HS system than Tyson for developing QB skills needed for the next level. That could be the difference, but, I think Tyson has a TON of upside. Just hope he can "grow" into his potential.

But Lia might just have "it" too. I doubt he has the same "it" his big brother has, but even if it's close, the other QBs might not be able to hold him off from getting to #2 next year and being big brother's backup.

I really expected Christian Barmore to make significant progress this year, considering the hype from some on last years coaching staff . I was think he would take that step from obscurity to stardom like many before him. It’s still early in spring ball , and we have all of fall camp. Hopefully, we can develop a decent DL rotation this year!
