2024 Presidential Election VIII

Doesn’t matter. Army rules are that when you accept a CSM promotion you are expected to serve 2 years or get chaptered out. Hence why his retirement reads E-8 instead of E-9.

He served over two decades of his life in the NG. He decided to retire and the NG said it was OK. No one should have a problem with that, particularly since he would have requested out months prior to being notified his unit would be deployed. On top of that, the NG could have told him an emphatic no. This is all a manufactured outrage.

Meanwhile, loser Trump is calling the black woman running against him a five letter B-word.

He's losing to a black woman, the kind of person he holds the most contempt for and he's losing it.

ETA: It's a shame we can't post a link to articles about this because of the language. The articles are out there.
betty?

That’s not the issue. The issue is that he has paraded around the idea that he was a “a retired Command Sergeant Major” and even was paid the retirement benefits associated with that rank until it came to light and the military corrected it.

I don’t think it’s extreme as Vance went with it but it’s quite of a substantial leap from saying “only 4 enlisted members of the entire enlisted ranks outranked me upon retirement” to “only 1% of the enlisted force outranked me upon retirement”.
He didn’t fulfill the qualifications to maintain that rank and has dodged it like the plague since 2008 when being called out for it and questioned about the timing of it. Now instead of being just a Minnesota news story it’s a national one.

But then again… when Dubya was questioned along the same lines Democrats were so ready to crucify him.

I, like most people, know Next to nothing about how military rank vs retired military rank works. I also am not all that familiar with the timing of Walz' claims and statements, how/when they happened, and all the rest.

It just looks like republicans throwing shpagetti against the wall to see what will stick at this point.

So far no one has put together a cogent and coherent reasonable and complete timeline to help us understand.

This is going to be the last that I say on it because I have a lot to do this weekend to get ready for the week. It’s also really not a huge issue for me because I’m voting for Kamala anyways.

I think you have to go back to the origin of the complaints over it and not just start over the last few weeks when it reemerged. He started to getting attacked over it because he kept presenting himself as a retired CSM while he was running first after his retirement when a few men in his unit started to attack him for it. To include the CSM who replaced him on the deployment. Yes he was a “conditional” CSM but he was demoted because he didn’t finish SM school and serve the additional 2 years required to retire at that rank. To some one that didn’t serve I get that sounds like a nothing burger. But we are really talking about taking someone’s line number who would have fulfilled that contract, not fulfilling that contract, and then trying to claim the benefits of that rank to further your financial and political career.

I don’t think how Vance is pushing it as “stolen valor” is correct. Waltz did serve and he got out in a reasonable time frame to claim retirement. However, claiming that he is a “retired CSM” is about the equivalent of a BUDS recruit who survived Hell Week claiming he is a Navy SEAL. It’s someone that has done most of the hard work to achieve a coveted title and distinction but hasn’t fully achieved it yet is claiming the benefits of the distinction.

Personally I see Waltz more like Dubya with regards to military service. There are questions about their willingness to actually fight if called upon, but there is no question that they served honorably and got out the same.

That’s probably a stretch given the decades he served.

You have to serve for two years at a rank in order to be retired at that rank.
Calling himself "Sergeant Major, retired" is cheesy and incorrect, but not exactly treason either.
Look at his DD214 and it says "E-8/Master Sergeant."
It is an honor to be selected, but to call yourself "Sergeant Major," you have to meet all the requirements. Walz did not.

Nobody is going to vote one way or the other based on this issue. A tempest in a teacup.
