What would you guys have done when we had fourth and goal at like the 2 towards the end of the first half when we kicked the fg and made it 6-3...would you guys have gone for the td because I think I would have...your offense is sputtering and your in enemy territory against a really good team....what would you do if you were the coach?

Considering our offense's history this season. You've got (at some point) to do something to get out of this red zone funk. I'd go for it. If you fail the game is still tied. Your defense has already picked off Ainge twice and has controlled the UT offense pretty well. Not much to lose.

Call a timeout, log on to the net, and run a quick poll on TideFans on what to do. :rolleye2: Do you really understand momentum going in to halftime with a lead... instead of a tie?

Re: You make the call....

I would definately go for it. With the power formation of McClain and Castille, you have to like your chances. Also, the D has been great all day and imagine what they would do if they had UT back up to the shadow of their own goal line. Shula needs to realize that a bunch of field goals isn't going to cut it when the opposition has a high powered offense.

when its 6-3 ??? not really...if your players want you to go for it like they were asking Coach to do on the sideline and you put it in the endzone that would be some momentum...you gotta have faith in your players every once in a while and take a chance

It was 3-3 and closer to two yards. If you take that chance the way the offensive line was playing i'd say we would have slim chance of scoring.

One thing I haven't seen mentioned. If you kick a field goal, you get 3 points, but you kick the ball to them, and even at the very worst, they get the ball on their own 20. If you go for it and make it, you get 6+PAT=7. If you miss, they get the ball back on their own 1. I'd much rather have given them the ball on their 1 than on their 20. JMHO

Momentum comes with any lead when a team is in hostile territory. If you don't realize that, you've never played/coached in a big-time atmosphere. Granted, it would not have been equal to the momentum of a 10-3 lead... but if UT stops us in that situation, they go into halftime feeling good about themselves... and we feel as if we wasted a scoring opportunity.

Re: You make the call....

Kick the 3. We could not run at all in the first half. If we did go for it, some kind of rollout and throw to TE or JPW keeps it. I had no problem with the FG. We should have maybe tried a pass before that....

If you miss a FG inside the twenty it automatically comes out to the twenty.
UT does not get the ball at the one.

Re: You make the call....

I know it's a different year, team, moment, etc...

But didn't CMS go for it on 4th & G against Florida last year for that second TD? After the Leak INT by Harris?

That was a big game...but it was at home...and not right before the half...as much as we might have wanted him to go for it (and I'm sure part of him wanted to go for it)...i think he risks less overall by kicking the FG, which is huge on the road, especially at Neyland...

Yes, I understand that we have taken three half-time leads on the road this year and have lost all three in the second half (so much for momentum at the half). It does not matter who leads at half-time, it matters who leads at the end of the game. Take some chances in the 1st half, we had really nothing to lose in that situation.

oh I realize what your saying I'm just trying to say that our time has trouble enough scoring three points we don't get many chances at the 2...I mean I know its a chance to take but I think our team especially our OL needs to be shown that our coaches have faith in them
