Alabama vs. WKU Postgame Thread

Let me take this opportunity to restate our site policies. We've always had a policy against harsh criticism and "bashing" of players and coaches. As Rich was fond of saying "It's frequently not so much what you say as how you say it." There's been an unreal amount of anger and vitriol tonight, following a shutout while our next opponent was being beaten by a mid-major in overtime. Last, this site is not a site where battles about site policy can be fought out on the open forums. The staff will listen to rational complaints via PM, but not grandstanding on the forums. Shrill criticism of coaching has not been that much of a problem since Saban joined us, but, apparently, he's just not good enough for some...

You would think that we lost by some of the posts on here! I think some of us think WE are Saban!

AJ deserve some of the blame also, he held the ball too long. Throw it away and move to the next play versus losing 10 yards. It appeared that there where several new plays being worked on by the offense and still some adjustments in play calling, giving an expanded look for future opponents to think about. I also saw lots of players on the D side getting playing time as well as some on offense(though not as many) will continue getting better this season and have quality people prepared to step in if needed.

No doubt the OT's were beat a few times by the speed rush and that will be worked on.
The QB also needs to step up in the pocket sometimes, instead of retreating into the rush.

The game went about like I thought it would, other than JF getting hurt.

WKU has some SEC talent and is a well coached team.

The team will be ready for ARK.

Agreed. I guess i missed something. We won 35-0 in a game where it's natural for our guys to slack off a little bit. Bama has never been a team to beat these patsies 84-0 like some others do. We just go out, take care of business, and go home. Nothing to see here folks, move along. The sky is not falling........

My guess is he was thinking his team needed more work and the third team RB was the perfect guy to have in the game. Sheesh!

I think he wanted CNS to pull a Clint Eastwood and play an empty chair at halfback...

Some of the people in this thread need to step back off the ledge. Don't jump folks. It's going to be ok.

There are several areas we need to improve on. But guys, let's remember that we had some OL issues last season as well that we had to work on from game to game. So let's not freak out just let.

We had trouble run blocking or getting much push the first 3 or 4 games last year, and last year turned out alright.

I for one am very happy with a 35-0 shutout. Especially after such a dominate performance last week. There was going to be a little let down. I thought Western Kent looked pretty good and they will win the majority of their games this year. Anytime we can get a shut out I am very happy.

My Sunday morning reading of the Post Game Thread never fails to give me the giggles!

I had an extremely busy day yesterday. Only got to watch sporadically an only got to listen to buts and pieces.

Sounds like we may have had some sloppy moments, may have had some guys learning some things via 'game experience', and definitely have some things to work on.

I'll take a sloppy 35-0 win over a decent team; and I'll trust that whatever needs to get tweaked, oiled, and repaired will get handled by the best coaching staff in the country.

As Earle and others have said, the play of both lines bothers me. Eddie broke the first play but after that we lost the point of attack for the rest of the afternoon. Meanwhile, WK's blitzes and straight line rush consistently swarmed the backfield. neither of the OTs had the foot speed necessary to handle the wide rush.

Our defensive line did a lot of shagging for most of the game. Ed Stinson made a couple of nice plays, but the QB had plenty of time to make his West Coast reads. They also created consistent lanes for their running backs. Pretty impressive performance all around for the visitors. Pretty mediocre by us.

Sounds like a good synopsis. I'm not worried yet. Despite the loss to la-mo, arky will come out fired up and hoping to give us fits. I feel like Coach will have us ready.

By the way, if you want to bask in the glories of an open board, check out Jeff Schultz's game thread on the AJC. an absolute embarrassment to the entire football program. Oh and I forgot ... Georgia ended up winning, and big. Thirty-two years without a championship can lead to some pent-up anger.

Yes, the let down from last weekend was inevitable. It just shows what can happen when you are not fully dialed in. I loved the way Coach worked on the passiing game. Before the season is out, AJ will have to win a game with his arm.

It was lack luster for stretches but not too bad. It reminded me of some NFL preseason games. I don't know if it wasn't in the scheme or if we just didn't want to show too much but we ran very few screens to try and slow down their pass rush. We could've done a better job protecting but their line was coming up field no matter what, a few more screens might've helped. I thought A.J. threw the ball VERY well but he held on to twice for sacks. CNS will be sure let em hear about it this week.

I think this sums things up pretty well. I was disappointed that our lines didn't dominate against inferior talent, but I have to tip my hat to the effort that WKU gave. The score differential is about what most of us thought it would be, but our effort and execution were definitely down from last week. It is impossible to play at the top of our game every single week, and it is good that we are to the point that we can play an average game and beat a decent opponent by thirty-five points.

The Arky game has lost some luster, and I'm sure that CBS is ticked off at John L. Smith, but they will be ready to play against us. I think we will be ready, too. Roll Tide!

I agree. I think we played down to their level but not to take anything away from WKU, they came to play and really have some talented players and the game could have been a lot closer if not for the turnovers. I hope Bama doesn't let this performance carry over to next week. I have a feeling that Arky will be snot-slinging mad and out to prove that game was a fluke. The hogs are better than they showed, I think that like Bama, the hogs played down to their competition level. Also I think it was totally classless for john l. smith to not shake hands at midfield. My prediction is that mr smiff won't last the season.
