Question: Analyze LSU

What are y'all's thoughts on LSU's defense and offense? Stuff the box on defense and dare Muttonburger to best us? Run right at them with PA passes?

Play the same way we've played for 8 straight weeks...balanced defense and offense.

If we contreol the lines, we win easily...and I think we overmatch them this season.

And I am amazed that they didnt get better at QB with mettenberger...theyve gotten worse.

I think we wind by 17-20 against them.

it sounds simple but as long as Bama can run the football, we win by a comfortable margin. if not, anything can happen

This. If you look at the past few years of games against them whoever has run the ball better has won the game. I assume that will continue in this game.

I like our chances because of the QB's. They will most likely have to protect theirs with their game plan while we will not. Both defenses are so good that they can stop the other team if the QB isn't trusted enough to make plays. It's what happened in the first game last year and the second game as far as LSU.

No, because Miss State still only has one loss.
If we beat LSU but lost to Texas A&M and Auburn, and if Miss State wins out, then Miss State would go to Atlanta.

Gotcha. Thanks. Well State is about to go on a 3 game losing streak so I'm not worried about them. :)

Yes, but he's got to have time. OM, of all things, brought two extra on that side a couple of times and got to him almost as soon as the ball did...

I can't remember if that formation was something AJ could have read pre-snap or not. But assuming it is, changing to a running play would be the ticket. But, I'm not sure how all of that works within our scheme. So I might be suggesting something that isn't available for AJ within our scheme. Plus, it's not like CNS doesn't already know our weaknesses and potential concerns going into this game much better than I do. LOL!

So you're saying there's a chance? :biggrin2:

LSU = excellent Dline, good secondary and very good running game, led by a freshman rb and freshman oline no less. BAMA will need to contain Hill & Ford in the running game, and force Mettenberger into bad plays/throws. He gets rattled & frustrated when things start breaking down, and has difficulty reading defenses. Bama's defense will take advantage of that I believe, much like Florida's did.

Bama for sure will have to protect AJ; No doubt LSU will bring pressure and try and make BAMA pass to beat them. But I think we'll mostly see the same balance we've seen all year from Bama. IF Bama has issues establishing the run early, it wouldn't surprise me to see B. Sims in to run the zone read at some point early, as they've mixed in plays with Sims in almost every game all season for a change of pace.

This game will be a mostly defensive physical slug-fest early; both teams have excellent defenses with different strengths, but Bama has an edge in a couple of important areas, one of them being at the qb position and a more potent offense than what LSU faced before. Eventually, I think Bama's offense will break some big plays, and take control of the game for the win.
Should be another awesome game in a great environment.
RTR.

LSU's defense is better than their stats indicate. They get no help from their offense, which forces them to defend more plays/drives per game than other teams in the top 10 defensively.

Still, I can't see them driving the field against you guys even once in this game. Don't turn the ball over and you win.

They have had an off week and this is the game they have circled. If you think the barn is crazy over beating us, imagine how they would be if they beat Bam in the Iron Bowl, then lost a BCS game to Bama. That is the current state of LSU football: Nothing else matters but beating Alabama at this point. Expect an emotional team to give all their effort to make that happen. The key will be to dodge the haymakers (I expect fakes and gambles a plenty) and just make plays.

Did I read that right?

LSU is 117th in penalties per game?!

This^^^^.

This Saturday IS THEIR season. Has been since January 10th of this year. This game is more than a game to get to the SECCG or the BCSCG. This is about so much more to them.

Over the last decade, with LSU's rise to the one of the elites of college football, much of their fan base has felt that as a football program, they have surpassed Alabama. This mostly comes from the bandwagon fans who jumped on board in the early 2000's. You don't get this type attitude from the old school, long in the tooth fans. They are much, much more knowledgeable. But a lot of their fan base is made up of these bandwagon fans. So what happened on January 9th was inconceivable. That COULD NOT of happened under "normal" circumstances. So this game is about "setting the record straight". I also think the rest of Les' support rides on this game, and I think he and his players know that. I have no doubts CNS will have a gameplan ready. But I just hope our players and our staff understand that to the LSU folks this is much, much more than a game leading to a championship. This is very, very personal.

I think the whole idea about this game being the only one that matters for LSU since the beat down they took in January could really work against them. As far as the game plan goes; I think much like last time A.J. will be throwing a lot on first down to open things up.
