Another QB Recruit?

I know the mods have stated Saban doesn't plan on getting another QB in this class since we have Star Jackson. But do the problems with JPW and the apparent problems with the backups change this at all? Thanks.

It makes you wonder a little. Our staff either must have very little confidence in McElroy and Fanuzzi or they're simply not up to snuff yet (playbook wise) because it is very puzzling as to why JPW is allowed to stay in games where it is obvious he needs to be relieved. I'll hold out hope that it's still an adjustment to the new offense but his up and down inconsistent play has me worried, and not just for the remainder of this year. Here's to hoping that Star comes in ready to go from the get go and that our current QBs all improve between now and next season! :BigA:

The biggest problem with QB play is the O-line. Three starting O-linemen were out Saturday and it showed. I don't think any of our QBs are serious running threats so getting beat up will be the norm until we get our O-line back.

Sorry but that just doesn't fly with me. Even when JPW has adequate time to throw he still doesn't properly go through his progression of receivers. That has absolutely nothing to do with the OL and everything to do with the QB. His decision making abilities leave something to be desired as well.

I am thinking it might be a real possibility that we bring in another QB and fast.

I would quess by the staffs refusal to play our backup QB's that they must be really bad,so I for one say get 2 in this class. We have big needs at QB if we are ever going to win more than 50% of our games!:mad2:

Maybe under so much pressure, it affects his decision making abilities. But to make an analogy, AU's Cox seems to take pressure and hits fairly well, although I hate to admit it.

part of the reason for this is that most of the time he doesn't have enough time to throw. he starts to get happy feet. we saw this with brodie against auburn his senior year. so when he does get adequate time, he's off rythm and has a brain fart.

One thing to remember is that Fanuzzi is a Saban recruit. He passed on Marve to pursue Fanuzzi.

I think Fanuzzi hasn't played simply because he is a Freshmen behind an established (maybe not great, but decent) Junior quarterback and what most would assume to be a decent back-up.

I look for Fanuzzi to be a factor next year over McElroy - Fanuzzi has a better arm and appears to be pretty mobile, and going back to my original point - He is a Saban recruit.

Good points, but I don't think the above is entirely accurate. Marve was primarily a fan of Shula rather than Alabama and when Shula left, Marve really wasn't interested in Alabama any longer.

When Saban became the head coach, Marve still continued to take visits and rave about his visit to Miami so Saban employed the "you shop, we shop" approach and started recruiting Fanuzzi.

Marve and Fanuzzi basically traded places as Fanuzzi was initially a Miami commit and Marve ended up at Miami.

Any new word on Cliff Stoudt's son?

At last check (two weeks), Stoudt's interest was gauged on whether he'd consider enrolling mid year. No offer.

JPW either took a sack or missed a wide open receiver on more than one occasion yesterday when he had over 6 seconds to throw. You can't ask an OL to block Titus Brown for 6 seconds all day long. Won't happen.

Your line of thinking is consistent with quite a few people, here.

Marve was urged to take the visit to UM. He saw the writing on the wall.

Like I said, even when he has plenty of time he still doesn't look past his first or second target.

Again, I can understand the whole part about not having enough time to go through a progression, that's understandable and forgivable, but he's not doing it regardless of how much time he has and that's just not going to cut it against good defenses.

RTO, this has nothing to do with a QB, but how in the world do you post those multiple quotes??????????

see that little button out to the right of the "quote" button....click that and it will change colors.....

do it for as many as you need and then just click "post reply" and they will all appear in order you clicked them.

You could pick a better example than Cox. Did you see him play Miss St, or even UGA yesterday? In the AU losses Cox has consistently found the other team's players when he had pressure. Cox has no arm strength and teams have figured that out and pressure him rather than let him sit back there and try to pick them apart. I hope to watch Gilberry have a career day!
