JessN: Assistant coach hiring tracker...

Now that the staff seems to be complete, it’s fair to say none of his hires carry much of a wow factor. But I’m going to follow the guidance of others here, who are willing to trust CKDs’s judgement at this point. Hope for the best….we’ll have all season to complain if things go poorly.
Defensive staff has wow factor. Very good recruiters and very intelligent people. Wommack is the guy other coaches call when they can’t stop someone.

Offensive and special teams…very lack luster on paper at least.

I think Reddit can be a good resource and there are knowledgeable people there, but I'm going to give the guy who is 104-12 as a head coach the benefit of the doubt over message board posters...
Sure, he has my trust. I don’t necessarily disagree but he’s not Nick Saban so I don’t full trust him yet.

Therein lies the issue. CNS is gone and there's not another to be had at this point. Probably never will be again. It's going to take CKD a couple cycles or more of coach rollover to find his groove. I'm reserved to that and lowering my standard for the near future. I'm hoping to be surprised with a quicker championship competitive team/program but I'll take my lumps if I have too just like I did in the Shula years.

Well good sir because intelligent people surrounded themselves by the opinions of others. Not just like minded. That way, they aren’t blinded by any biased.

There are 3 million followers on that page. All highly passionate about college football. The opinions come far and wide and bring a wealth of knowledge. It’s amazing.

When a a very large group of people collectively laugh at a hire, then quickly summon stats or speak from fan experience, negatively about a hire. It’s not good.
Well fine then, have it your way. It’s a terrible hire and the entire college football world is laughing at Alabama. May as well find a new team to pull for.

Getting roasted for the hire on Reddit.

“2019 Colorado: 99th rushing offense

2020 MSU: 123rd rushing offense

2021 MSU: 53rd rushing offense

2022 MSU: 111th rushing offense

2023 MSU: 127th rushing offense

For a guy who's the OL coach and run game coordinator, he seems to coach a lot of teams that are terrible at running the ball”

that’s something I read from someone

Reddit is always the first place I go to get feedback on Alabama football - LOL. The guy had no talent at MSU. Why did Aranda hire him if he is such a horrible coach? Lots of P5 experience and has ties in the SE and SW so I like the hire.

Last 2 Alabama OL coaches were making close to $1 million / year. With $1 million / year budget, DeBoer probably could’ve picked anyone out of 99% college OL coaches in the country

I think you misunderstood, I meant there aren't many options to pick from as to what you think of the Hire. Either it is a bad hire, and you can make that determination on February 19th, or say it's a great hire on February 19th, or take a wait and see. I'm taking the wait and see.

And no, DeBoer couldn't pick whoever he wanted. If that's the case Huff would still be here. Saban couldn't always get who he wanted either. You pick from the options available and hope it works out. That's how real life normally works.

Here's what some people haven't figured out yet: NIL and portal are changing the landscape of the coaching world too. Coaches aren't going to go to a school just for the name, the salary, the recruiting pull anymore. Things like quality of life, location, family preference, combined with NIL allowing them to go/stay where they want to are more key than ever. Read the interview with Grubb...he was laying the groundwork to move to the pros LAST YEAR.....he would have bailed on Saban too if Macdonald had gotten a job this year. FWIW, the University of Alabama has gotten a Saban bump over his entire career here. It's not exactly easy to get to Tuscaloosa, our schools are very average, housing is seriously overpriced, there is very little for families to do, our state income tax is stupid, our sales tax is 10%, and so on. Why leave where you know and what you know to take a chance on the unknown? Saban was a known quantity and people still couldn't handle it. We're not as bad off as the chicken littles think, but we're not as great as the sunshine pumpers think either.

It’s honestly hard to tell.
Cry babies would say “this is the beginning of the end. It’ over. We’re going 8-4”

All I’ve said is it doesn’t appear to be a great hire. Then I got roasted for saying where I got my information from.

A lot of high brows here…

By the way, I also said we’d make it to the SECCG last season when all the “cry babies” said we’d go 8-4 or 9-3. So again, I’m a realist

Yeah but good coaches usually take bad teams and make them better. He got worse year after year… I think just blaming the talent level is a little shallow.
Good Fans usually wait till the team plays a couple of games before they rush to judgement. I would not use stats from modern day Colorado. Afterall they won two games before PRIME arrived. Deon run off most of that team and brought in a bunch of Mercenaries. Colorado did better when they got better players. IMO: I think Alabama has better players, so I think we can expect better results. Of course I'm wearing my CRIMSON GLASSES today. :)

Agreed but can’t argue with surrounding yourself with multiple opinions and perspectives. I take it all with a grain of salt and ultimately draw my own conclusion.

Totally agree with you. I think many of us are getting tired and ****ed about how negative the national media and trolls have reacted about the entire DeBoer hire and his hires so when one of our own joins in we are going to let you know it.

I think the wait and see thought process is a better way to look at it than give a negative comment minutes after the hire was announced. Many on here are very knowledgeable and probably the best place to get accurate information/opinions.
