UPDATE ...
Finally able to get back to a desk today to add Chris Kapilovic (OL) and Bryan Ellis (TE).
The Kapilovic hire kind of comes out of left field to me (I would have put money on Mason Miller if forced to bet), but it doesn't come out of left field in a bad way.
I'm surprised with all the back-and-forth over whether this was a "good" hire or not that no one has picked up on the obvious connection here: Kapilovic is a long-time Larry Fedora guy and has a lot of experience in an offense that has a lot of roots in the spread and Air Raid, but also has a physical component to it. He's also a well-respected recruiter. Two of his lines have been Joe Moore Award finalists and it was one of his MSU lines that did the blocking for Kenneth Walker's breakout season(s). Given what happened to Michigan State as the direct result of the Mel Tucker situation, I find it curious that anyone would cast aspersions on his record.
Alabama fans have been split on the OL position between wanting a "physical" guy and wanting a guy who meshed well with DeBoer's base strategy. You got a two-for-one deal here, so be happy.
Ellis is a younger guy (by 20+ years) with a much shorter resume but Georgia Southern did not want to see him go. I'm a bit surprised Jay Nunez didn't get this slot, but I understand it.
Also, in general, I don't see how anyone can be less than enthused about an offensive staff that has Shephard, Gillespie and Kapilovic on it. And for the fourth time in this thread, if people would get honest about Sheridan's resume both with and without DeBoer, it kind of mirrors what Grubb was able to do both with and without DeBoer.
