In the Daunte Wright incident, reports are the warrant was for an unpermitted pistol in an incident in June with a police officer. That's what they'll lean on to excuse the trigger-happy part. Also, they shot with a female in the car with him, which is reckless...
Unless he tried to run them over when fleeing, they need to go to prison for murder.

He had run into another vehicle and injured the occupants. If it turns out the pistol was in the car, you can forget prosecution in this one...
He ran into that vehicle after he was shot - probably because he was shot.

Could be. It's interesting that the PD is holding the details pretty tight so far...
I saw a report that had more detail. They made it clear that the police fired when he tried to drive away, though did not indicate why. Did he swerve toward the police? Maybe. But the accident happened after that.

Yes, I saw that. The report of his being arrested on weapons charges in June (report of man waving pistol around, with officer involvement) was actually in one of the foreign publications. It'll be interesting to see the details. There seems to be more than meets the eye...

On the radio on the way home, I heard an audio clip of the incident. The female LEO said, "If you don't comply, I'm going to tase you". Then a gunshot was heard and the LEO said" Oh, s***" Like she drew the wrong weapon?

Yep - she meant to tase him and killed him. No excuse for that kind of mistake.

I recall a video from a few years ago where the same thing happened. It was on subway / train stop and they had the guy on the ground, shot him in the head iirc.

I know cops can't be perfect, but we should expect they have trained enough to know what they're drawing and discharging. These sorts of mistakes are avoidable.

Their chief explained that they train with the taser mounted on the off hand, supposedly making it unlikely to make this error. IIRC the video, she drew with her right and shot, meaning she probably confused her dominant hand. I'd guess confusion under pressure. I seriously doubt that she meant to shoot him, with all the consequences...

I agree, but if you or I accidentally shoot a person, "it was an accident" would still come with some serious consequences.

Body cam footage has been released and is available on CNN. Not gonna link it.

This could get really ugly, but a couple of things should be noted:

1. This was CLEARLY an accidental shooting. It is nowhere near the same ballpark as kneeling on George Floyd's throat for almost ten minutes.

2. The police chief seems to understand the powder keg he's standing on, and is trying to be as open as he knows how.

3. If the prosecutor's in the Chauvin case have any brains at all, they'll use this case to illustrate why accidental manslaughter should not even be an option.

I'm not sure what you're disagreeing with. I don't remember saying at all that she shouldn't face consequences. What I said was that I was pretty sure that the shooting was unintentional exactly because of the consequences she will face. Her life will never be the same...

Sorry for the confusion - I was not disagreeing, but I am not sure that she will face any legal consequences. We will see.

Yah, I don't think it was intentional at all. I do suspect it points to a lack of training.

I have several friends with either the local police or sheriff depts and they all tell me a vast majority of officers only train to the minimum requirements, which isn't nearly enough training.
