Bama Coordinator Search Thread

There is no reason to be watching this with much concern. Even the bad ones weren't that bad and the good ones had their faults.

I mean, yeah, we've had a few that were testaments to the ability of talent to overcome bad playcalling and gameplanning and haven't hired anyone truly great, but why not hope to buck all that? Nothing wrong with wanting to win bigger / look better / stop annoying trends.

I've posited that Hugh Freeze could very well be our new QB coach and Co-OC. That is something I've considered. I imagine he at least gets the OC title for contractual purposes much like Locksley this past season.

We shall see.

If CNS is happy with the direction of Freeze's life (and I'm sure CNS talked about it with him after the CLK off the field issues), Freeze might be in a very good place to give us a couple of years at OC.

Right now, he's tainted goods and I don't really see a program hiring him as a HC without some proof he's learned some lessons. Where better to do that in CNS's recovery program. I know we joke about it, but CNS provides an environment that shows a coach how to succeed and to do it the right way (work within the rules) and that's the kind of coach Freeze needs to know, see and become.

We all know how hard it is to win a title and we know how close we've been a couple of times when we didn't win it, but with the offensive talent we've got in that freshman class and the stout defense we all know we'll have, it would be real possible for Bama to win 1 out of the next 2 NC AND if we got some breaks maybe the next 2.

Interesting. I personally don't want Freeze on the field so this is some what good news to me. I hope if he comes to Bama its only as an analyst.

I don't want him on the field or even on the Bama payroll at all. Maybe he can be unpaid team chaplain.

Sankey kinda owes Alabama one after allowing Maurice Smith and Georgia to subvert the graduate transfer rules set by the conference. I imagine a compromise will be met between our AD and Sankey that involves reductions in Freeze's recruiting travel to maybe even a one or two game suspension. It may just be an agreement on the trust of Saban's program to keep Freeze on the straight and narrow. I understand the SEC office's misgivings about this from a PR perspective but the NCAA didn't prevent the man from finding work in their penalties. It would be concerning for the SEC office to insert themselves into the member school hiring process in my opinion at least.

Didn't Florida have to get someone cleared by the commissioner last year? It has been an accepted rule, and if member schools do not like it they can petition to change it.

Im trying to figure out why Freeze's personal life has to do with Alabama football? It does not matter how we feel about him.. Saban is going to do what's best whether we like it or not.

If Saban has issues with the offense and can still win championships like this then who cares?

I wish that in spite of my "blind spot" I was at the top of my field and the envy of all my colleagues and had accomplished a level of domination and consistency that smashed record books and sent my contemporaries helplessly scrambling for a way to unseat me.

Saban isn't good at everything but he's so good when it matters that he is literally unstoppable. People, talented and gifted people, have been trying desperately to stop Nick Saban for a decade and have little to show for it. Millions and millions of dollars have gone into coaching contracts, new equipment, and player evaluation technology; all in pursuit of knocking the King off his throne and yet...
Despite his apparently well documented blind spot or projected weakness the program he has built crushes the CFB world like a steam roller gliding over Frosted Flakes cereal.

It's not that Saban maybe made a call on offense too late - it's that it didn't matter. Tripping backwards over our own shoelaces with our arms in slings and a neck brace cradling our skull we still managed to win a national championship game against a healthy and disciplined opponent.

How remarkable that despite waiting till the last possible moment to make a season altering decision the team still had so much talent (stocked by Saban) and discipline (coached by Saban) that they were able to punch Georgia in the throat and snatch a title from their limp hands?

People should be more afraid of Nick Saban now than ever before. He can literally beat your best team on its best day with one hand tied behind his back.

The stuff from his HS days gives me pause. I don't know what is true and what isn't but I see no need to risk it. We can find talented offensive minds elsewhere IMO.

Cmon.. really?

He's a known creep. Why is it so strange that fans wouldn't want a known creep in a position of influence on our team? There are many good offensive minds out there - why does it have to be the obvious sleaze ball?

I personally don't mind him being an analyst or maybe a position coach but I think he's too compromised at the moment to be an OC. I'm sure he'd call some great plays, but it's not all about that.

I'm sure we'd win with Freeze as OC but I've got no problem with people not wanting someone of his infamy level connected to the team in any capacity.

I can probably understand the concerns in respect to how it affected football at ole Miss, but at the same time, I understand his position would be one that is greatly more insignificant that that of a head coach ad a lot of coaches have made good with a second chance. If given one by Saban, I feel that he would use it wisely. I don't have a preference in this one either way.
