Roll Tide Everyone,

I'm driving up from south Florida to the game on Friday, and needed some BBQ info. I usually stop at Dreamland to get 5 or 6 slabs of ribs for our tailgate crew, but I wanted to get 5 or 6 pounds of BBQ pork for sandwiches with all of the fixens. I graduated back in '98, so I'm sure some of the BBQ joints have changed some. Can someone let me know of a good place around town I can get a "GameDay Special" like this from? I plan on calling ahead Friday and picking it up Sat Morning.

Looking foward to Gameday!

P.S. Just to let everyone know that Ernesto is a joke!

Personally...my favorite is Full Moon...and they are having their grand opening on Thursday. They are originally from Birmingham and have been in business for 25 years. This is their first place in Tuscaloosa. I would highly suggest getting your BBQ meat from there. They are where Papa's College Custard used to be...on McFarland Blvd on the right just after you pass 15th Street going towards University Blvd.

You might also want to try their homemade "half moon" cookies. It's a chocolate chip cookie and half of it has been dipped in chocolate...very good.

Hope this has helped...it sure has made me hungry.

RTR!

Archibalds in Northport is also very good.
The lil bar b q joint next to The Houndstooth that is open during game weekends is really good, although a little pricey....

Full Moon Bar-B-Que
Dreamland
Golden Rule Bar-B-Q
Johnny Ray's

Most of these sites have menus and locations, so find one that matches your needs. They're all good, but each one's a little different. Personally, I love Golden Rule sauce, but I like the meat from some of the other places more. And I'm not crazy about ribs, so that may affect my judgment as well.

Here's a BhamDining.com guide to Birmingham barbecue

Lordy Lordy I have got to get back to ALABAMA. :biggrin2:

I drove by Jonny Ray's in Northport today and noticed they were closed and had a for lease sign out front. I don't know if they relocated or just went out of business. Tried the new Full Moon in Tuscaloosa, very good and a good variety. They have numerous big screen TV's up and on football. I think I enjoyed looking at all of the Bama memorabilia as much as the BBQ.

I'm still hoping Jim and Nick's decides to try and enter the Tuscaloosa market soon. They could do some serious damage down here.
