Best player in my opinion was a kid named Rod Marshall. He blew a knee his Jr year but prior to that was getting notice from Bama and Auburn, he was like a miniature Earl Campbell with speed. He never recovered, this was prior to all the modern surgery they have today.

B. Grubbs from Eclectic. Maybe not, Alvin Freeman was 2-time state POY. He was fast an powerful, but grades were atrocious. Not all his fault, the school never made him take schoolwork seriously. I always thought he could have sued the BOE for dereliction of duty.

The Rockwell brothers also were Fairhope alums.

I went to a school called Sequoyah High School in Metro Atl. It is now a middle school. The best football player to ever play at that school was Jerrill(sp) Sprinkle. He signed a scholarship at UA and played special teams and DB. He was a heck of an offensive player QB/RB in high school, but as the Bear sometimes did he took a talented offensive player and turned him into a DB. Jerrill was not a superstar at Alabama but probablly had one of the biggest honors anyone has ever had at Alabama, as he was in Bryants last senior class and was a pall bearer. Wow!!

Philip Rivers (Charger starting QB), Keith Askens (played for Bama, the Heat, and the Bulls), Richard Hendrix (UA b-ball player), Alfred Mccullough (UA commit), Wes Brown (DE at UT), Freddie Smith (used to hold tackles record at AU), James Newby (OT at NC State), Jason Jude (former RB at Mississippi State), Thomas Woodrof (OL at Vanderbilt), Bill Ming (OL at MTSU), Tank Beavers (B-ball at Memphis), Greg Haynes (played for Bama in the late 70's.)

Born a Tider, I thought Kelvin Sigler also played at Shaw? He played Safety at Bama 94-99, that boy could hit.

I went to Ft. Walton Beach high class of 96 (same school as Coffee and rival of DJ's school). Danny Wuerffel was my QB my freshman year along with E.G Green as the RB. Senior year Marcus Outzen was my QB as we won state again (against Daunte Culpeppers team). Outzen was the FSU qb that played in the NC game against TN. The panhandle has plenty of sleepers in it every year.

Quentin Castille...not YET a great player (he just commited as FB to Nebraska) im sure he will be a GREAT FB @ Nebraska...

My fresh year (00-01) we had a senior named Gainus (sp) Scott, he went out to arizona and just did not fare out well, but in hs MAN was he a fast back, running i think 4.34 or quicker? don't really know for sure

I'm also a Fairhope alum. Our school also turned out Tobie Shiels, center on the 1992 national championship team. Fairhope also featured Mike DuBose as an assistant coach in the 1970's.
