Was planning on going to the game but it looks like I won't make it, luckily ESPN is showing the game on Gameplan - anyone know where the backout map can be found?

I imagine Memphis will be safe, but...

Think it will be blacked out in T-town, even though it's a sell-out?

In Alabama and Hawaii, you can still get it but I believe it's a separate package that you'll have to buy from each school through your local cable or satellite provider. Not that you'd want to but I UT, Vandy, etc. would be blacked out on your Gameplan since you're in Memphis.

I'm not sure but I think that you'll be safe as long as you aren't in Alabama or Hawaii.

So if you live in Alabama and have Gameplan, you will not get the Alabama vs. Hawaii or Alabama vs. La. Monroe games? I don't understand how all this works. Can someone explain this to me?

If you live in Alabama, you will not be able to see any Alabama games through ESPN Gameplan. You'll have to order the PPV games individually through your local cable provider or your satellite vendor. If this is not the case, PLEASE correct me.

That is correct.

Gameplan offers several games each week, each game having its own 'blackout map'. Areas which are blacked out will not be able to view that particular game. Generally speaking, the blacked out area covers the geographic area of the two teams playing in the game.

So, if you are in Alabama, you cannot view any of the Alabama games through Gameplan. This is done to support the Pay-Per-View structure. Since you live in Alabama, you have the option of ordering the Pay-Per-View. If you don't order PPV, you can't watch the game unless you go to the stadium. If you tune into the channel that is showing the Gameplan broadcast, all you'll see is the blackout map for the entire duration of the game.

If you are outside of the area of either team, you'll be able to see the game via Gameplan (because you didn't have the option of ordering PPV).

The way around this, of course, is to sign up for ESPN Gameplan online, and simply tell them that your address is somewhere outside of any possible blackout zone, like, say, New Hampshire.

Of course, then you have to deal with watching it online, about 40 seconds behind the rest of the world, and with much grainier picture... but you do what you gotta do.

I've looked and can't see this option. It seems you have to buy the entire season. Any help?

I called ESPN this morning and asked them about this. The rep on the phone said that for now the only option was the early bird season package, but as the games approached, it would switch and you'd have the option of buying 'single games' (although I suspect that you get all of the games for that weekend if you get one).

So it seems as though there WILL be an option to order just that week's game. I'm waiting on it to see if that is an option. I don't feel like spending $110 on about 4 games.

Actually the $110 is not a bad deal since you'll be able to watch a ton of other college games. You'll probably pay close to that anyway just if you order the 4 games. My brother gets it each year although he can't get the 'Bama games since he lives here.

just looked at the website and the weekly option is now there for those (like me) who only wish to purchase the hawaii game.

Awesome thanks! This option seems like its only for the online version though.

Speaking of which...what exactly is needed to hook a computer up to a tv? (not real tech savy)

You need a tv output of some kind from your computer, which - if you don't already have (chances are good that you don't) means you'd have to buy a separate card or breakout box. Basically, unless you can look at the back of your computer and see a composite (yellow) or s-video output connector, you're probably best off just watching it on your computer monitor.

(I'm making an assumption here that you don't have a fancy tv with a rgb input, etc. The assumptions in this thread will probably hold for 95% of the people out there. If you still need more info though, just ask...)

Thanks so much. Guess I'll watch from the comp after all. :)
