Did anyone think that the jumper on the blocked FG landed on the UA lineman? It looked very similar to what LSU was called for a penality against AU.

I think it is a bad rule to start with but he got a running start and landed across the LOS and I thought he might have hit a UA lineman just like LSU did....

They mentioned that during the broadcast but it wasnt called. I too think its a stupid rule but when you get the NCAA involved dont expect intellegent decisions to be made.

Also does anyone out there know when Miss. State is suppose to get their sanctions (if ever)? Have they already been cleared?

The NCAA is stalling, hoping to find a way out of the box canyon they've run into. If they drop the hammer on MSU, Jackie Sherrill will probably sue, and his lawyer will then swap info w/ Gallion. If they go lightly, then Gallion can point at the disparity as proof of the NCAA's inconsistencies.

I hate it when that happens. :)

It's a dumb rule. It's in the category of holding, whete the penalty is called in the eye of the beholder.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm convinced that eliminating the halo rule is going to get some kid severely injured. How they can implement the one rule in the name of safety and then eliminate the halo is truly baffling.

I noticed the same thing. The guy did a belly-flop on the Bama lineman. He clearly left his feet from beyond the neutral zone and landed on the opposing player, and it wasn't called.

I looked up the rule in the official NCAA Rule Book, and it goes something like this:

Rule 9-1 Q
"No defensive player, in an attempt to gain an advantage, may step, jump, or stand on an opponent. No defensive player who runs forward from beyond the neutral zone and leaps in an obvious attempt to block a field goal or try may land on an opponent."

When they called that in the Awbun game, I didn't know the rule, but still thought it was a bad call, especially since it had nothing to do with the kick. The Awbun guy just missed the kick. I thought to myself at that time that it was a bad call and would be something that the SEC officials would NOT call on a consistant basis. And obviously, they haven't. It's a bad rule. But if it is a rule, then they need to call it EVERY time.

One of our RB's also had a face mask which was so obvious, yet not called. Even far away in TV land I saw the foul on the FG attempt and sat waitinf for the penalty. How could a ref miss either of those? Makes me wonder what is going on.

Well, it was the same crew that did the TN-FL game...
