Border thread part II

He's coherent in what's good for Trump. His command to get everything they demanded or "SHUT IT DOWN" torpedoed the bill and, he thinks, preserves the border as an issue for him. I'm not too sure about that. I think even the voting public is catching on that it's the Republicans who are blocking progress. I notice enough senators ignored him to get another CR through, instead of shutting the government down. They have enough sense to realize that the Republicans haven't come out very well in the past by shutting down the government, so self-preservation took over...
You’re way too optimistic. Polls show Biden owns this issue. If he takes some pretty drastic actions he could start to turn that around, but will his left flank allow him to do what’s needed to win the middle?

Putting this problem at the feet of one side or the other is how the game is played.

But here's the problem right now for the POTUS.

Many in the country are not happy.......

Immigration surges to top concern for Americans, new poll finds

Americans say immigration most important national issue for first time since 2019 in Gallup poll

If I'm Captain of the Ship (POTUS), I'm not waiting around for Congress....I'm going to do something on my own. From what I understand he does have options......

The election is still a ways away and I think he has time to improve his approval ratings, but the clock is ticking so we'll see........

If people have any intelligence and are the least bit informed they will know whose feet the problem currently lies at.

You're welcome to your "partisan-related" opinions on things....but in looking at the big picture.........

Much of the folks in the country are sick and tired of the partisan politics.

One side blaming the other....and problems not getting solved.

What we need is a problem-solver....and something not dependent on politics.

One of the problems with this is the political machine. The industry as I call it. So many people making money over discourse that you're fighting an uphill battle trying to argue "it's this side or the other side's fault."

Unfortunately the president seems to be unable to understand the power he has to rise above all this stuff.

A true leader right now would be pounding his fist on the podium and demanding that the problems get fixed.

The last time we saw any kind of "rage" was when his age was brought into question from that documents report. His ego was so damaged he felt the need to hold a late evening press conference.

I wish he'd be that upset over the border, amongst all the other things that are bothering the majority of Americans.

I'm not posting this to necessarily bash the POTUS but when someone tries to say this party or that party is responsible when we have the leader of the world who could step in and fix a lot of stuff and just keeps going back to MAGA this and the other side that....well the people aren't buying it.

And you wonder how OMB is doing so well in the polls.

My God......it's not him....it's the lack effectiveness from his opponent(s)......

I truly wish this wasn't the case.

Things are screwed up right now and those pointing fingers to the other side are as complicate in it as anyone else..... 🤷‍♂️

Ya'll are making the politicians very wealthy so congrats!

Nothing personal NT......love ya man.......;)

I just call it like I see it. You’re welcome to disagree and ignore reality.

It's amazing that the potential of Trump as POTUS is the 'end of democracy' yet Biden as POTUS just 'isn't able to do anything' to stop the border being overrun - despite multiple examples of policies that were SCOTUS-approved that Biden chose to end.

Curse those MAGA tribalists!
He let his left flank drive him into policies that may cost him the presidency. The first one to sane policies wins and on the border so far Biden is far from where the middle of the country wants to be.

This is precisely why anytime I hear the moronic phrase “threat to democracy” I know immediately I’m not dealing with a serious person. It’s either an utterly dishonest person or a thoroughly unhinged lunatic. I don’t know which is worse.

What specific policies should he reverse or implement?

Do republicans have any responsibility in your mind for the situation?

When you have a former President who tried to overturn an election using any means available, including mob violence, and then he runs again…democracy is on the line.

Biden’s base was ready to swallow the Senate bill on the border. Despite leaving the Dreamers out in the cold.

Don't confuse anyone with logic.

I can't link the video I wanted to here, but go watch Jack Posobiec's opening and later speech at CPAC. Listen to Trump's own words.

If anyone is willing to believe they are joking then they deserve whatever they get even if others don't.

This is the most obvious change that Biden chose to make, despite the SCOTUS ruling allowing it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Remain_in_Mexico

100% his choice.

Yes, the republicans bear obvious blame. But those acting as if one POTUS can destroy the country while another cannot even stop illegals from overrunning the border are being intellectually dishonest.

Note, I do believe Trump is a danger to our democracy - the point is Biden has powers he refuses to use.

Go tribe!

And if you aren't going to hold republicans accountable for their actions regarding the border then don't expect anyone to take you seriously when you say the border is a big problem.

If you are distracted by the dangers of out of control voter fraud or Biben’s age you might have missed how badly the GOP recently fumbled their border issue.

I followed the link you put up...it's a little more complicated...
The policy was initially ended by the Biden administration, and after some legal battles, the Supreme Court of the United States ruled on June 30, 2022, in Biden v. Texas, that the administration had the authority to end the policy. In December 2022, however, a federal judge blocked the Biden administration from ending the program.

On December 15, 2022, U.S. District Judge Matthew J. Kacsmaryk prevented the Biden administration from ending the program, ruling that it should stay in place while legal challenges play out, following the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to return the case to the lower courts.[36] However, Kacsmaryk did not order the policy reinstated.[37] In February 2023, Mexico's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced it rejects any efforts to reinstate the policy for asylum-seekers.

I wish Biden could make executive orders that Mexico would honor but I realize that's expecting too much.
It seems the situation is one where the courts forbade Biden from ending the policy and Mexico said forget it anyway, it's nothing we will cooperate with.

Mexico has zero say wrt US immigration policies. Whether the US allows "asylum seekers" entry or not is purely up to the US government.

In fact, there's no rule that we have to accept those seeking asylum at all, we do so because we consider it the right and proper thing to do.

You can go back and look at the policies Biden chose to end at the beginning of his presidency and lo-and-behold, suddenly the illegal immigration numbers jumped staggeringly. Biden has options, he just refuses to use them as he painted himself into a political corner. Stating otherwise is ignoring the choices he made upon taking office.

I was asked, I provided. You guys can continue to act like one man has unlimited POTUS power while the other guy just can't seem to get things done due to 'mean old congress', but only those who cheer for team over all else see it that way.
